They make themselves "Lil Bro" when they do stuff like this:

It takes pretty much zero effort to deem anyone "Lil Bro" when their entire existence is based around everything Alabama.

We are their measuring stick for everything they do. And that is precisely why they are "Lil bro". It has nothing to do with our opinions of them - and everything to do with their opinions of us.

Correct. UA would be about +20 in the series instead of just 7

Most Auburn fans just laugh when we hear it. Whatever helps them feel good in life, I'm ok with.

To say that Auburn is inferior to Alabama is just dumb.

College Football is all about cycles. Alabama is up right now. So is Auburn. When Auburn is up, they are just as good as Alabama. They are not inferior.

The foundations of this developed off the field, long before either fielded a football team.

I think they even embrace their inferiority
quote:

Auburn fans are different. Auburn fans usually have a direct connection to the school, whereas Alabama fans don't necessarily have blood ties or lambskin degrees. Auburn fans attended school there, or their relatives did, or they have a fondness for the underdog. Those who follow Auburn prefer to be called part of the Auburn "family," and the clichéd way to refer to members of that Auburn family is to say they have a chip on their shoulder, that they want Auburn to be Alabama when the program grows up. That's wrong. Auburn folks are actually proud of that chip—proud that they're not Alabama. They embrace their uniqueness. I think they even embrace their inferiority. Alabama fans don't understand that their expectations are not only unrealistic, but destructive and suffocating. Nobody can function forever under those types of ridiculous expectations. Saban, who has lost four games in the last three seasons, has dealt with those expectations since 2008. It's national championship or bust.
Why didn't you highlight "I think they even embrace their inferiority"?

Alabama is guilty of the same type of thing.

Seems to me more like rivalry banter.

You are right.

Maybe we should change LSU to our Lil Bro . . . would make more sense.

IMO the fact that Auburn is only 7 wins away from evening up the series makes them far from "lil bro" status.

I honestly never understood calling any university "little brother" to another one. At best, I would think that it would be part of the same University system for the designation to make any sense (like UAB or UAH is little brother to Alabama, and AUM is little brother to Auburn).

I guess there's some insult implied? The only reason one might consider Auburn little brother to Alabama is age (which is how I still call my younger brother "little" despite the fact that he's 3 inches taller than me). Alabama was founded in 1831; Auburn in 1856. Aside from that, I guess you could look at enrollment (34852 to 25469), endowment (632 mil to 522 mil), or campus size (1970 acres to 1843 acres), but those are splitting hairs.

Honestly, if anything, they're more like sister schools. Similar size, same state, even integrated in nearly the same years (Alabama 1963, Auburn 1964)

Notice the font used in the "Beat Bama" sign.

Cardboard cutouts?

"BEAT AUBURN" in their team meeting room - not just for the off season, not just for Iron Bowl week - but for the ENTIRE YEAR?

Dotting the field where a big play happened - AFTER they had won an SEC Championship the very next week?

Do you think we'd ever put up a cardboard cutout of an Iron Bowl play instead of an SEC Championship mural?

It's pretty funny, actually. And even funnier to see all of the Auburn fans who want to pretend like it's no indication of "lil bro" status.

They do it to themselves.

Let's be clear that an AU fan said that.

If that was entirely the case, they should be more in line with Alabama's history.

I'm not sure if this is revisionist history or ignorance.

The series was 7-4-1 AU when the IB was suspended. When the series was resumed, AU was 6-5 in IB before Bryant took over. That's 13-9-1 in favor of AU. Truth hurts, dwi.

That's two different Bammers that have brought up LSU in a thread not pertaining to us.

Y'all need to update the rivalry list.

Yes. Of the "kick six"... You know... because they don't use us as a measuring stick.

Auburn was owning your @ss before the bahr got to Bama. Auburn was the state school back then. Thank your lucky stars that the series was halted, or Bama would not be where they are now.

Auburn was not "Auburn" back then. Before Coach Bryant arrived, they were "Alabama Polytechnic Institute".

I think, however, that I have ever seen the claim that Auburn was the state school at any given moment in state history - that is, honestly, simply not true.
