I have lived in Alabama, spent some time in Mississippi, and lived in Columbia, Mo for 2 years.

Culturally, it isn't a fit. Columbia is definitely more of a Midwest college town. A large amount of students come from the Chicago area. Big 10 would have been the much better fit.

It's not that Mizzou fans don't care about football, but it is not the year round personal investment that so many fans in the South treat football as. The interest is definitely lowered by the level of play which is not the case in most SEC schools. Also, football gamedays just feel different there.

Being a pro baseball state is also a big part of it, especially with how huge the Cardinals are, and recently the Royals. A playoff Cardinals game would be much bigger than an October Missouri football game.

The SEC East piece also complicates things. West Virginia is dealing with the same issues in the Big 12. It is hard to be rivals with schools halfway across the country who you have no history with. You lose the yearly games with the Kansas schools, Nebraska, Oklahoma schools.

If last night was Kansas instead of Kentucky, it would have been a sell out even with how bad the basketball team is.

I don't think Mizzou fans hate the move. They understand the benefits and the issues created in their old conference. They also seem to realize it is not a great fit. Having poor football and basketball right now and no rivalries has sucked out any excitement in either sport.

We are a border state, we are not going to be a perfect fit anywhere. And in some ways the B1G would be a closer fit, but still not perfect. Athletically the SEC is a better conference to be in and there is no junior membership bullshite. The east is tough geographically but we are into some developing rivalries. The SC, FL, GA, and TN games in particular are followed with some heat. If our newish coach can get his shite together it could be fun

I don't think it's any secret that Missouri lusted after the B1G for decades. Some in the Missouri community are thrilled with the revenues of the SEC, but it still feels like a consolation prize to many.

and you are pretty close. I'd slightly dispute the MLB playoffs being bigger than October football game. Especially if we are good. Now, if we are middling or bad, that is definitely the case.

The best way I could imagine it would be to have either Auburn or Alabama join the ACC North. Lose your rivals. Terrible Geography. Little cultural similarities. That is tough to be excited about.

I've said before and I'll say again, the B1G would be a much better fit. If an invite comes, we would be fools not to take it. But, until/if they decide to go MU/kU for 15/16...that is a moot point. That is unless you believe the rumors that we were offered Nebraska's junior member option and turned it down.

Why do we recycle the same material at least 4-5 times every off season?

How does one "embrace the SEC"?

You go to college.

Your college has sports teams.

Yay, sports teams.

You are a KC pussy who cries because KC isn't the epicenter of Mizzou college athletics in the Big 12 anymore.
That's really all your bull shite boils down to at the end of the day. You might fool some of the folks on tRant that don't know better but must of us Mizzou ranters know your angle well by now.

Football season ticket holders at A&M got a big upgrade swapping out longhorns every other year for Alabama, Auburn, LSU and this year we had Tennessee at home.

The road trips are a helluva lot more attractive.

We had a history of playing LSU and Arkansas, and although we were already playing the Hogs, it is now a conference game.

Being in the SEC has been great!

Being in the SEC is the best thing to ever happen to Texas A&M, besides letting in women. We should have always been in the SEC to begin with, and should have moved with Arkansas or when the SWC imploded. Joining the XII was a huge mistake for us from the get go. We did not fit culturally with the northern "yankee" schools in the old Big 8 (yes, this includes you Missouri) and we had very limited history with them, including OU and OSU.

In addition to our history with LSU, our Arkansas series has been played about as much as our series with Tech. I think when Arkansas left the SWC, our series with them was longer at that time. The only schools that remained in the XII that we had long histories with were Baylor and tu, as TCU didn't join the XII until after we left. Now the A&M/Arkansas series is one of the most played in the SEC, and LSU has played us more than than they have some long time original conference members.

Our roots are common and our conservative culture is just like that on just about every Land Grant school in the SEC. While we talk about our "commonality" with Alabama, our true mirror image school is Auburn. When I traveled to Auburn for our first game there, I saw a school that is our twin. What great fans and people the Auburn folks are. And it has been similar to this with every school we have visited.

There was a faction at TAMU that wanted to go to the PAC, and now we know what a colossal mistake that would have been. It would have been a much worse fit than Missouri in the SEC.

I can't speak directly for Missouri, but it does seem that they really wanted to be in the B1G, and perhaps they will be someday. They desperately wanted out of the XII. I don't have anything against Missouri, but I don't get the idea that they "wanted" to be in the SEC the way we have wanted to for generations.

Columbia Missouri is as much a "yankee" town as college station is "southern".

You are a moron. While Texas isn't the "Deep South", our state and our school has a much closer cultureal tie to the South than Missouri. Both KC and STL are Midwestern cities. Dallas and Houston are both considered Southern cities.

Why don't youse guys go drink a pop and hush?

I think most have. We have a lot of fair weather fans who don't support Mizzou athletics when it's in the shitter. Also, Missouri is a big pro sport state, especially the Cardinals and Blues (and formerly Rams). It's not a secret that Mizzou doesn't have a big a fanbase as we would like. I think those who are actually true Mizzou fans including myself love being in the SEC but still do miss the Big 12 days.

You miss getting mudhole stomped by Oklahoma at every corner? You really just miss Kansas and Nebraska, and even Illinois seems like a better rivalry for Mizzou because the majority of your alumni end up in Chicago or Dallas. If Mizzou would just play Kansas and Illinois OOC every year, they would be a great SEC fit. They would have their regional rivalries they could dominate and then every decade or two, the rest of us would root you on against Kansas and Illinois, and we'd all have fun.

Missouri has both.

Been through there quite a bit. East of Rolla, St. Louis, KC are definitely midwestern.

Springfield, Joplin, the Ozarks are more western/southern.

There was a great story posted last Nov I think about how the Mizzou bid to SEC came about. Believe me the Mizzou admin are ecstatic. They were highly involved in trying to save the Big12 but the agreements started to disentigrate mainly due to UT and OU taking all the money. They got about $12-14 mill from Big12 each yr. First yr take from SEC was $25mil +. Last year was about $42Mil. I think they are happy!

It was all about survival for them and the SEC was the best gig going.

Truthfully, Mizzou just realizes their potential is limited in the SEC. They'll never beat Bama in football nor will they consistently compete with Kentucky.

Similiar to the Big 12, their arch nemesis was both OU and Kansas.
