re: Why has LSU had such a long run of QB ineptitude?

Anyone who watched both the LSU and Ohio State spring games knows Burrow is an upgrade right now over McMillan, Brennan, or Narcisse.
A year from now might give us a different answer. McMillan will be gone, Brennan will hopefully have gained both weight and experience, and Narcisse will hopefully have gotten back up to speed.

Why hasn't LSU been able to find a QB that will work when they seemingly have all the other pieces
quote:How many of those universities had Les Miles as head coach?
Both UGA and Alabama have been able to succeed with true freshmen QBs lately.
Auburn has put transfer QBs out there to pretty good effect.
Dan Mullen was able to turn overlooked QBs into bonafide stars.
Ole Miss has had Chad Kelly, Shea Patterson, and Bo Wallace.
Even South Carolina has found guys like Connor Shaw and Jake Bentley to be successful.

You've included three 3*s with few offers, including one with a shot shoulder before he even stepped on campus, and a walk-on as a part of your "big busts"? reach a little farther next time.

That is not it! It is just LSU is not a quarterback magnet like others and do not forget Les Miles?! That should tell you about LSU! Maybe try get an offensive guru as a head coach?

Mobile, run/pass QB.
Perilloux, Jefferson, Shepherd, Harris. If any of those guys develops, we likely win another title. If all do, we likely hold off Alabama's run on the SEC. Conceptually, they are Deshaun Watson at Clemson, but with a more talented supporting cast.
But none of them did. Funny how the least touted (Jefferson) was the most successful. I think he was supposed to redshirt and then wait, and take over after Perilloux's jr season.
Seems the run/pass guys we got NEVER developed, while the classic pocket guys (Lee, Mett, Etling) took awhile, but eventually became competent seniors. Competent, not great (although Mett pushed that a bit). They weren't Miles' plan, and whenever any of them faced Bama, it was pretty clear that he was right- a classic pocket guy wasn't going to beat the Tide.
I know, lots of people will say Harris was a pocket guy, but he did have wheels. He wasn't a threat to run a lot, but I saw him escape sure sacks with his legs and then get passes off. Had he been able to stay in control, he would have been the prototype QB. Problem was, when he did escape and throw, it was usually up for grabs.

But still historically better than auburn

This is kinda what I'm wondering. Brennan and Narcisse both are big name recruits. I keep hearing pundits say LSU needs to wait to develop them and I just don't get why. I mean throwing out a true freshman isn't always advisable if you can help it but Brennan starting as a Sophomore seems like it could work just fine
Exactly. He just needs experience. Of course there will be growing pains, but by the time he's an upperclassman, he'd have that experience under his belt.
I think Coach O needs some immediate success. He's facing one of the toughest schedules in the country (Miami, Georgia, Alabama on top of Auburn, Florida, and Texas A&M), and he doesn't want to take the risk with Brennan. So he brings in a grad transfer for short term success.
That's the best theory I have anyways.

Miles had all his eggs in Ryan Perrilloux’ basket and had no answer and had recruited no legit backups when he kicked him off the team. After that, who knows. Miles just preferred to run the ball (Mett just fell into his lap).

Coach Saban says ALL NC runs require some luck along the way. Just make sure that luck isn’t wasted.
I’d (and you would too) take luck + MNC over a 40 year drought any day of the week!
Salty dog! Woof!

Due to Auburn having the hardest schedule historically in the SEC and AU has played the most games against other members of the Big 6 when LSU has played the fewest games against other members of the Big 6.
Congrats, I guess, on all your wins over Miss St. and Ole Miss!!

Quotes like this kill me. Did you not watch the Spring game? I have high hopes for Brennan, but unfortunately for him he is having a very tough time gaining weight. Our Dline in that Spring game ate him up...what do you think the Dlines of Miami, Bama, AU, GA would do to him? He is not physically ready. To be honest I think he should redshirt. And it’s not like his family is in a huge rush to get to the NFL, they are doing alright ;-)

2011 wasn't a good season?
Come on. Clemson has a couple of good posters (CivilTiger, for one) but when you come on here like this you make people hate Clemson. That might not matter to you, but to say LSU has had no good seasons since Nick Saban went to Alabama is so far off base it kills anything serious you might want to say.

LSU has indeed had top notch RB’s, WR’s, and OL, however they never had the best at any position other than WR’s, and without a QB, it’s like buying tires before you bought the car.

How does his size have anything to do with the defense being able to affect his ability? Seems to me like you would shave a great defensive line or a bad offensive line. Unless you think you gotta have a scrambling QB to win.

According to Sports-Reference, LSU has historically faced a much tougher schedule than Auburn since the SEC’s inception. In fact, LSU’s is THE toughest of all of the current SEC teams.
LINK to actual facts, and not bullshite that I pulled out of my arse
You chose the arbitrary “Big 6” moniker because you know that Auburn and Georgia have played over 110 times, and are the only two “Big 6” schools to have done so.
