Two principle reasons:
1. TITLE IX equity
2. There are already an abundance of non-profit sports draining AD funds

Has been since the 80s when it won two national titles.

there are only 11 programs or so that have won two or more titles in men's soccer.

Football takes up 80 scholarships. There is no women's sport that comes anywhere close to that number. This is why there are so many women's sports. That's also why most college baseball players don't have scholarships or only have partial scholarships. Title 9 eliminated most men's sports at colleges and universities.

Do most SEC schools not have women's rowing? Clemson has that and those are large teams.

Clemson only recently added a softball program but has had a men's soccer program since the 70s.

We would have to add a womens sport with equivalent scholarships. Lacrosse or something. Doesn’t make sense for many of our schools.

Because of being on the Warrior River, and because of having a prominent donor who wanted to fund it, Alabama has women's rowing. Clemson does also. I think Tennessee is the only other SEC school that does.

Little known fact...apparently Alabama is a member of the Big 12 for rowing.

Clemson doesn't have swimming and diving. Most if not all SEC teams have those for both men and women.

Guess I wasn't thinking about Clemson being a higher percentage of male than many universities due to the engineering program.

but even so, a chick school like UofSC has men's soccer.

What's funnier is that it was promoted to create more opportunities for women, and now in Connecticut it's used to allow boys to win state championships in girls' track.

true, Clemson used to but wasn't competitive in it.

We've added a softball program and now a women's lacrosse program is coming.

This thread should go on forever with everyone just replying Title IX

If it wasn't for Title IX US Men would be winning the World Cup

Funny thing is, if they keep this transgender shite up then the only women sport that will be left will be gymnastics.

Because lesser men will take all of their spots

Long story short...

Title IX forces schools to make choices. SEC schools by and large have chosen swimming and diving instead of soccer, and with great success. SEC schools down through the years have produced significant numbers of Olympic and world champions. This goes back to before soccer was regulated as a sport by state high school athletic associations. Alabama and Auburn were putting swimmers in the Olympics long before soccer became an AHSAA sport.
