Wait..LSU fans try to claim 08?
The national champs beat the shite out of you. How can you remotely try and claim that..

if Wayne Atchison had never tried to count 1941 so many of these threads would have never existed. Why he decided to count 1941 and not 1945 is amazing to me.
Agreed.

Lots of people still complain about the split titles, but I don't find the arguments valid.
1941 I don't defend. But I will say, the AP was pretty bad back then with coastal bias.

They are trying to remain relevant any way they can. They are using the bama method of counting championships.

I doubt you really have more titles using Bama math.
On the other hand, Alabama would have many more titles if they used what people thought was Bama math.
You're starting to sound like that Ole Miss fan in the other thread.

Three more for us sounds good.

I've never understood why Bama embellishishes their claims. They have plenty of fine football teams that won championships without claiming ones like 1941 and 1973.

We don't need to.
We already have more than the rest of the SEC besides Bama without it.
LSU is second only to Bama in football.
We know, you posted it on every board on the whole site.

What's wrong with 1973?

Ok, so explain to me why you think Alabama doesn't claim 1966.
National Championships in 1964 and 1965. Went undefeated in 1966.
Is not claimed.

then how Oklahoma bounced back in the polls after a really bad home loss in NOVEMBER has always been a head scratcher.
Bama fans don't want to touch this.

Find me one program in America that doesn't claim a #1 ranking in the AP or Coaches Poll

Yall lost your bowl game. I've never heard of a team claiming a National Championship when they lose their bowl.

1979 puzzles me too, Bama was voted in over a USC team that beat them in Birmingham. Not like USC wasn't a prestige program themselves

Then you don't know shite about college football because there are MANY teams that did it.
Bowl games back in the day were considered exhibition games. Notre Dame didn't even start playing in bowl games until they changed that. The final polls prior to that were before the bowl games.
Funny enough, it was fine when other teams did it. But in both polls, as soon as Alabama did it - they had to change it.
Even funnier, the AP poll did it after Alabama won it in 1964 that way, and then Alabama won it in 1965 because they waited until after the bowl game.

USC and Alabama played 3rd week of the season. USC went on to lose to an unranked team. At no point in the season was USC ranked #1 by the AP. They moved to #3 after beating Alabama, dropped down to #7 after losing that game.
And then because they forced it so only Pac12 and Big10 teams could play in the Rose Bowl, they went on to play #5 Michigan.
Alabama on the other hand went on to finish the season without any losses, and because the SEC wasn't a bunch of pussies, when bowl games came around #2 Alabama went and played #1 Penn St in the bowl game. Alabama won, finished the season #1 in the AP poll.
