It's actually pretty old and also pretty terrible.

For example:

quote:

As the NCAA measures strength of schedule (winning percentage of opponents)

That is one of the worse methods for determining SoS that exists. It says that all teams that have equal records are the same.

So if you were to take last year for example, that SoS method would say Appalachian St was the tied 3rd toughest team in the country, who went 13-1 along with Ohio St.

It would also claim that App St was a more difficult opponents than: Alabama, Auburn, Texas and the majority of the LSU schedule.

Because it doesn't take into account the schedule difficulty of those teams. Which is somewhat addressed using the cumulative version, but not really.

Anyone who doesn't recognize these basic things isn't qualified to do shite when it comes to ranking teams.

But I'm glad you realized you were getting 1979 and 1978 mixed up and edited it.

It is pretty interesting. There is a lot of politics involved also because all this stuff happened during the civil rights movement.

Up hill battle for all southern teams.

Hard to remember things that happened before you were born Alabama did go 2-2 against USC in the 1970s, so I guess they were equals more or less

Easy for me because I've debated the topic many times. 1978 is one of my favorites because I get to point out that the Pac12 and Big10 hijacked the post season and refused to play anyone but themselves. It took lots of years where the rest of college football tried to set up #1 and #2 at the end of the year to drag them to the BCS era finally. Even then the Pac12 and Big10 had to be dragged into the playoff era kicking and screaming due to the 2011 NCG. SEC and ACC were voting in favor of the playoffs for more than a decade before we got them.

1941 is the claim that isn't legit. There is no defense for it.
