Why does South Carolina historically suck so bad in the big two sports?

Football
1 conference title in program history.
1 division title in program history.
Only 3 seasons with 11 wins in school history.
They've never had a 12 win season in school history.
Basketball
no elite eights
8 total tourney appearances.
South Carolina seems to have pretty good facilities and they're in a decent location for recruiting. They should be a lot better than that IMO. What gives?

They joined the SEC 25 years ago. I guess that's not enough time to win the division more than once or at least get a 12 win season.

Wellllllllll, come to think of it ... there is that. I mean 1972-1992 we were Independent - BTW, how many conference titles did any of the other Independents have during their Independent years?

Yeah, this is correct. Every year, people across the country look forward to filling out their brackets for the college world series. Who hasn't played in a cws office pool?
