There were 8 years in a row (1984-1991) when every SEC team already was out of the discussion for the national championship heading into bowl season. That doesn't sound like very much fun for anybody.

So what?

That you think the fix to that is to lower the standards rather than expecting higher quality football teams is telling.

Again, all you want is the illusion of being more important.

Things were better back then as the kids were playing for their school and state rather from their back pockets.... Enjoy professional college football.

The system now is so much better its not even funny. You could be 100% screwed years ago just from being ranked low to start the season or by being locked in a bowl game where you couldn't play the AP # 1 ranked team. What I don't like now is what the portal has done to college football. It may help for quicker rebuilds but it's nuts how easy they can leave.

I've been an Alabama fan for 9 national championships. I'm well aware of the differences, I've lived through all these eras and changes.

The BCS was the best. 4 team playoffs were an understanding compromise for occasions when 3 teams had somewhat decent claims on the NC. That happened a total of 1 time in the years of the BCS, and it wasn't 2011. Although the whole committee thing was always a bad idea, they couldn't really frick it up with 4 teams.

Anything beyond that is purely for greed and has nothing to do with competitive sports and trying to find the actual best team for a national championship.

The poll ranking thing is mostly myth and only occured when multiple teams went undefeated. The blocking of the #1 vs #2 was Big10/Pac10/Rose Bowl crap. It sucked, but has nothing to do with anything BCS and beyond.

It went into "profits above everything else"hyper drive mode. NO other considerations were made.

Whatever was most profitable, that was the route.

It destroyed conferences and rivalries and traditions, but it didn't matter, it made more money.

I think 4 teams...1vs4, 2vs3.....now it is like the NFL..regular season games rarely mean shite.

You sound like an old man who doesn't get out much. There is no putting the genie back in the bottle.

It sucks right NOW because college football is going through a massive paradigm shift

All the errors in the sport are becoming way too obvious and need to get fixed. Once we come out on the other side of this, the sport will be much better off. The sport is shedding its skin right now

The committee sucks, needs to go
Conference championships are outdated and need to go
We need to get away from "rankings"...it's the most asinine way to choose teams for a playoff

Your team is in the SEC championship again and will be in the cfp.

You'd think you would be enjoying another great Georgia football season.

Live in the present.

The only ones who were playing for their school and their state were the Rudys. Everybody else was convinced they were going to the NFL and college was just a stepping stone. Every 3 star that LSU and Georgia sign today are convinced they're going to the NFL one day. It'd deslusional, but that's how it's always worked.

The BCS helped because before that when you lost mattered big time. When there weren't 2 major undefeateds a late loss usually assured you were shut out.

A late loss generally should mean you are out. If you lose, you lost control of your destiny and it was up to other teams to lose. And even then the quality of wins and losses still matter, so it doesn't always happen. The biggest complaint about not taking SoS into account is usually that they don't apply until records are even. After that, it usually got applied well.

In all the years Alabama barely missed out on a NC or whatever, never once did I ever think - they should lower the standards to include Alabama. I thought - I hope Alabama is a better team next year.

Was Kirby a Rudy?

You don't have former players all around your program as fans and such? Alabama certainly does, and they weren't Rudy's.

No it shouldn't. FSU under Bowden would have definitely won more nationals if not for that. Spurrier would have got more than 1 also. The AP just seemed to always want to drop teams 6 or 7 spots for a loss even if they clearly looked to be a better team than the team that loss early in the season. Some teams schedule were much more difficult late than others also.

Name the years if you want to lobby specific accusations.

Did you consider having better teams and not losing as a better alternative?

Those years FSU lost to Miami on the wide right stuff etc they clearly looked like they were perhaps the best team in the country if there was a playoff scenario. I know one year we knocked them out they would have been favored by Vegas to beat anyone if they made the game. Funny thing with Bowden was the first Championship in 93 imo ND should have played for it over them due to handily controlling them when they played each other that year.

From an UGA fan? I’m confused, aren’t these your newfound fan glory days?

Yes, Kirby was a top-shelf Rudy. Colts cut him in training camp and didn't even keep him on as a practice player.
