Both of our schools start with the letter A. I have no idea who came up with it 1st though I wouldn't be oppossed to changing ours to something with a little more swag.

It comes from something else. Spring break used to be called AEA. It actually stands for Alabama Education Association. Long time ago there used to be an "A-day" in the spring when schools basically took the whole day off for spring type games outdoors. Sometimes carnival style celebrations.

I am pretty sure that is likely where it came from.

We disagree on everything and would never go with the idea of having the same name to a spring game, or the same name to anything.

Well getting along and being stuborn and argumentative for the sake of it are completely different things. It's a LETTER.

So both schools doesn't have Mississippi in their names? Your spring games are not the M&M games?

You refer to yourself as STATE?

Isn't that more generic then A-Day ?

Maybe because its a spring game and nobody really cares what you call it? Although I guess we could get both AD's to meet up together and play rock paper scissors to see who has to change their name.

The only two schools I have ever known of that refer to themselves as just "STATE" are Mississippi State and Michigan State.

Don't know about auburn, but that's how it started at Alabama. They used to have a community organisation or student organisation named the A club. I think it was A club. Anyway they used to put on a spring carnival every year and then bama started having a spring football game on the same weekend. It's named A day after that organisation.

This Question is sort of like asking "Why Does A Cat have a Climbing Gear?

Why don't A Coyote Howl at a good looking Chick Rather then The Moon?

Well I'll be damned. All this time I thought it was just short for a-hole Day.
