Wins that you rack up during the leather helmet days without any championships to show for it does not make anyone a blue blood
Disagree.

There were definitely bluebloods back in the Leather Helmet Days, but they have just lost that status due to mediocrity in the intervening years.

Minnesota, Harvard, Princeton and Yale are among the ten teams with the most national titles, all in the leather helmet days (though one of the Minnesota titles can be argued to be "modern era").

I don’t think we disagree. It seems like we agree.

But all of those Ivy League teams had something little brother Horn didn’t, championships

In the Leather Helmet Days? Agreed.

But I find it difficult to dispute the assertion that the 'sips gained blueblood status under Royal. Hard to argue with three national championships in eight years. See my long post on previous page.

For years it was 8 programs (alphabetical order) on r/CFB and Rivals:

Bama
Michigan
Nebraska
ND
Ohio St
OU
USC
Texas

this is generally what the college football world sees as true

go compare most SEC teams to Texas on Winsipedia

https://www.winsipedia.com/texas/vs/georgia

Texas has a better history than everyone in this conference except Alabama and Oklahoma

And then you have sort of a "new blood" group with:
Miami
FSU
Florida
Clemson
Georgia
LSU

I don't know what Penn State and Tennessee are....half-bloods?

"Blue Blood" seems to be more of one's opinion, so who really cares?

Hasn't helped Texas or OH against UGA lately.

All that matters is what you do next Saturday.

Go Dawgs.

If only there were 1000 other threads on this lol.

Also show me you don’t know the meaning of the phrase.

If you want an answer: wins, brand, grew the sport when tv came around. If college football began in 1970 Texas isn’t a top 10 program likely, given it didn’t we are deal with it.

You are saying Texas isn’t top 5 historically in the sec?

When did the sport take off?

Blue blood status is tied to that.

We have championships, much less than we should but the 3 in 8 years during the growth of the sport are a big factor.

"All hat, no cattle"

Bumbles have 4 Natty's, same as Utx, and nobody thinks them a blue blood.

Before the 70s they voted on the NC BEFORE the bowl games....Think about that. That's the most subjective bullsht, popularity contest ever & what constitutes old school "blue blood" status. It was a fkn shameless joke.

This year? Nope.

As a program/job/destination? Absolutely. The only places that could be considered more desirable or better jobs than Texas are Bama and UGA. And UGA is only recently there so that might be recency bias.

Wasn't that long ago they hired Charlie Strong as the 5th or 6th option because no one wanted the job. Tom Herman wasn't much more desired.

Texas is the perennial NC of hype though, no question.
