It was definitely part of the crown that made contact.
Exactly. The H2H contact in situations like that is due to the offensive players movement and often completely unavoidable for the tackler.

Like also when a player lowers himself and the defender was already coming in low to make a legal hit.

I PERSONALLY think a kickoff returner isn't defenseless. I thought it was a great hit and left it at that. I mean, against the Vols, the 12th Man hit high and caused a fumble.
That doesnt' matter though.
By the definition of the rules, it should have been called.
I think there should be a provision for the kick off returns and there should be special circumstances absolving the kick off team as the play is as north and south as they come.
I hate the rule regardless of the calls/no calls.

Umm no it's not actually... Text book would be keeping his head up and wrapping up while his face mask hits the chest or the other guys face mask if it ends up there. By him ducking his head is targeting and I've seen it called on LSU and many other teams this year. But not bama, they tightened up the rule where any contact with the crown is automatic targeting!! I've seen much less called against LSU for personal foul but wasn't targeting bc it wasn't near this close!!

I've seen on many occasions the refs putting balls 1/2 yard to a yard over where the ball is supposed to be and do the opposite for LSU. I've seen PI called on LSU and not on the opposing team many times.
The whole world is against Louisiana and LSU in particular.
We get it.
What do LSU fans and BLM protestors have in common???
Always the victim

Speedy barely lowered his helmet and Mack was coming in high. he would have still technically been in the head and neck area of the rule.
Again, it comes down to a judgment call and I am not upset it wasn't called. I am more worried about that kid doing damage to Auburn players....
Frick me he can put a lick on a player.

It's a fact and if and when it turns on bama I'll be sure to give y'all the same treatment!!

Watch the OM game and how much holding was going on with zero flags, the game bf against southern miss it was obvious but no calls. OM had to literally body slam Key for a flag to finally come out. One little touch by our DB and flags are flying everywhere. When multiple flags come flying for one little small touch tells me the refs watch one team and not the other. It's a fact that LSU is watched much more than any other team probably in the country. If we get physical we are told to calm down if bama gets physical they are called great players. It's pathetic really

I wish there was a time when 18 different teams at bama were on probation for this.

All whiners, just go ahead and join the
'Bama Privilege Club' and be done with it.
The truth will set you free and you'll feel better
going to bed at night, recognizing a vast
Bama-wing conspiracy exists from the highest SEC
office in Birmingham down to the lowest Alabama
peon supporter, to assure wins---by hook
or by crook.

Because the replay official is a AL alum

I guess Leonard Fournette never leads with his helmet. He's not defenseless because he's a grown arse man.
He's gonna kill some poor DB one day. Hell it may even be a linebacker.

My question is, what happened to holding? Does that rule even exist anymore?
Alabama holds on every play, but to be fair, I saw A&M holding plenty yesterday as well.
It seems like it has to be blatantly occurring directly in front of the ball carrier to be called. Even then it's not guaranteed.
