By definition it wasn't targeting. Textbook.

He hit with front (forehead) of helment, not crown. Neck and back bow, absorbing much of the impact. Safer. Also, player was not defenseless. Due to those FACTS, the hit on Noil was not targeting, per the rules. Refs and review got both got it right. They also made the right call on the targeting hit on Harris.

Was it because the top of his helmet hit the players facemask?? Serious question.

They need to find a consistency in this call cause it's to subjective, and can be a major game changer having potentially bias refs make the decision. A player gets ejected for goodness sake...a clear consistency needs to be found.

You don't have to be defenseless for it to be targeting. Leading with the crown of the helmet can be flagged.

Realty is, the targeting rule is a shitty rule with good intentions. It's too subjective right now though for there to be any consistency between games.

Review office in Birmingham. What else do you need to know. Ritter sitting there yucking it up with buddies during games. He's not calling anything against Bama.

What do you do the morning after a 17 point win over a rival?

Bitch about Alabama.

You owe us some rent.

I am guessing for the very same reason the A&M db was not called for targeting on OJ Howard's TD.

Apologies if this reply does not fit with the narrative you hoped would follow.

This is the most important part of this rule. It is up to the refs to decide this point. Did he maliciously attack the guy with intent to injure? No. Did he hit him hard. Yes. If this was targeting then there should have been about half a dozen targeting calls on Auburn against Austin Allen.

I know everyone is hating on Alabama right now but if you take away hard tackles like this, we'll soon have two-hand touch.

Serious question, has Alabama been called for targeting once all season?

Probably because Texas sends their best QB's to the SEC and the Fantasy Football (aka Big12)pays the SEC refs to frick aggy.

I will again make the point that based on what Danielson said, the SEC officials misrepresented how the rule reads.

Whether it was called correctly is secondary.

Plain and simple. Anytime , anything that has money involve can and will be corrupted we talking big business. Called will always seem to lean with the $ ???????
So that's why A&M had several calls go their way. I get it now. Too bad we're just poor backward Alabama

We've had targeting called on us against a non defenseless player. REC doing work. Changing rules on the fly.

Judgment call and it was bad judgment.

No doubt he hit with the crown of his helmet to the head. That is all the criteria needed to call targeting.

You will see the defenseless term used, but it is trumped by the Crown of the helmet to the head and shoulders area.

But it was a judgment call just the same and they can get it wrong in any game.
