That is a ridiculous premise. Alabama was winning Rose Bowls in the 20s when the Bear was a teenager.

Ok and? So we're Army and Princeton.

he had name recognition when he went to bama, plus a Natty under his belt. lot easier to get recruits that way.

its not rocket science

Delusional gumps who think success sustains itself and coaching doesn't matter. I guess the ghost of Pat Trammel just wills them to victory

You think LSU has the same commitment to winning at football that Bama does?

Let's see we nearly just fired a coach who was 8-3 and were willing to spend 17 mill on the buyout, 5 mill on his replacement's buyout and then another 35 mil over 5 years on the replacements salary.

That's not the point, those programs aren't relevant today. Some programs fade. Yale, Minnesota, Miami, etc. But some programs have stuck around and are more than a good coach or two. Notre Dame. Alabama. Michigan, etc.

According to L5U fans; L5U has more NFL talent. Therefore, it must be that L5U players dont actually care about the university (like Alabama Championship players do). They just use L5U as a stepping stone to the league.

LSU has recruiting advantages Bama doesn't have being the only legitimate program in the state with the highest per capita amount of NFL players.

What you say is true but not always guaranteed, as LSU's program did collapse before (during the 1990s) for two reasons. First, Baton Rouge's NAACP chair accused LSU of being racist, so all of Louisiana's top black recruits believed him and bolted out of state.

Second, LSU was known for being the home for Texas recruits who wanted to play in the SEC. However, then A&M hired a Louisianan as head coach, and he was able to put up a wall at the state border as well as recruit Louisiana players to A&M. Also Arkansas, who like LSU largely populated their roster with Texans, joined the SEC at this time and became a new gateway for Texans to play in the league.

LSU responded by hiring a new coach with A&M ties who had the potential to get back the Texas recruits. However, he concentrated on halting the loss of in-state black players first. But he spoke with a deep Southern accent, and the black players weren't convinced by that and continued to leave the state. Then LSU hired a northern coach, and he was finally able to convince the black recruits to stay in-state. Then LSU hired Saban (and A&M got rid of its Louisianan coach), so LSU took back the Texas recruits again. Arkansas was now unable to compete with LSU's return to its historic hold on Texan recruits in the SEC, and the Razorbacks' program collapsed. Miles kept Saban's pipeline going.

Then Bama hired Saban who used his Louisiana ties to snatch Louisiana's best recruits, and then A&M joined the conference and now holds the monopoly on Texas recruits in the SEC. In short, LSU's program is starting to sink back into a situation similar to that of the 1990s. Arkansas' annual game at Jerry World has not won it back Texas recruits, and LSU's kickoff classic games in Texas aren't helping it either. LSU's best hope is that Saban retires soon, so at least LSU keep all the in-state talent.

LSU was essentially a purple and gold version of Ole Miss when Saban arrived in Baton Rouge. They were only a couple years removed from getting whipped so thoroughly and repeatedly by A&M that they broke a contract to avoid starting 0-1 every season.

And you don't really see lsu fans talking about rattling off five in a row on bama a few years ago as we are being owned by them now.

I don't think anybody has ever mentioned if it would not of been LSU hiring Saban in the first place, after LSU had beaten him in the mighty Independence Bowl when Saban was the coach for Michigan St. Bama would of NEVER knew anything about him. People laughed when LSU hired him!!!

Y'all lost to UL Monroe with Nick Saban! Sure is easy to forget about all of the hardships getting to the top.

You blame race, I give all the credit to Bobby Bowden and FSU recruiting Louisiana more aggressive than any other coach or team of the South in the 90's.

don't hate LSU fans. I hate when LSU fans compare their program to BAMA's.

We are getting into a situation where a lot of the posters here frankly were too young to remember Sabans days at LSU. They stories get bigger of LSU with time.

Fact is there ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support LSU being in the same stratosphere as Bama in football historically. Absolutely zero.
The only time Bama hasn't been a better program was when Bama was on probation that under the current NCAA brass, would have never been on probation because now they wouldn't have had the proof they seek today.

Saban didn't win as much at LSU is because LSU isn't Alabama. Not in football. Never have been at that level for any sustained period of time. If you don't believe it compare the history of the schools. Top 10 finishes, bowl games, All-Americans, national titles, SEC titles, whatever. Check it out and tell me they compare. To Auburn, yes LSU compares, not to Bama.
Saban won the 03 title but nobody in America really remembers that team. SC gets the pub from that era.

Saban WOULD NOT have won 4 titles in his fist 7 years at LSU. He wouldn't have won 4 in his first 10. I do not believe for a second he would have 4 if he were still there to this very day. He MIGHT have 2.
This is the most Bama lost I have ever seen. Yes, Saban was about to make the same run at LSU. He won the natty in 2003, then look at the 2005,2006,2007 teams he left behind. We won in 2007 without him. With him we win at least one in 05 and 06. That would have put him with 3 titles in 7 years right there......
