Could there have been a worse choice?
In the era of big television deals, this was a disastrous decision.
SEC States by population:
27,500,000- Texas (#2)
20,300,000- Florida (#3)
10,200,000- Georgia (#8)
6,600,000- Tennessee (#17)
6,100,000- Missouri (#18)
4,900,000- South Carolina (#23)
4,900,000- Alabama (#24)
4,700,000- Louisiana (#25)
4,400,000- Kentucky (#26)
3,000,000- Mississippi (#32)
3,000,000- Arkansas (#33)
I mean Mississippi has more people than Arkansas. I know everyone complains about Mizzou, but if we are going to pick a state from the Ozarks, at least Mizzou adds more $$$ to our pockets thanks to their large population.
And its not like Arkansas has proven themselves on the gridiron. They are the #40 program according to the AP since we let them into the conference. And when we let them in, they were a basketball powerhouse that has completely now folded shop! Had we known they were going to tank their basketball program, surely the conference leaders at the time would have had second thoughts.
A team from North Carolina or Virginia would have been a much better choice, IMO.

Two teams in Alabama and Mississippi.
Dividing populations directly in half....Alabama has 2.5 mil and MS 1.5 mil per fan base.
Tennessee sorta too, but Vandy pulls their weight in academic talent.

I would call this the biggest mistake in the history of the conference.
Vanderbilt gives us academics cred
Texas A&M gives us $$$
Mizzou gives us two huge television markets
Kentucky gives us basketball relevance
Arkansas literally gives us nothing. They are a perennial loser on the SEC balance sheet.

Yeah, because South Carolina was let in because of their football prestige.
The conference expanded to get a championship game. Arkansas was a prime choice for what was available at the time, and South Carolina followed suit after a couple schools denied interest.
Arkansas offers PLENTY to the conference

Well, they have won a National Championship in a Big 3 since Georgia. So I don't know that I'd really throw stones.

Your hook is as shiny as the medal on your special olympics participation ribbon.

If you are going by population...West Virginia (#38) - 1,900,000 would have been a worse choice.
The problem with teams from North Carolina and Virginia is that they are already tied in with rivals in another conference...in that instance, you can only pull out the weakest of the rivals to join your conference (see 2012 expansion).

Oh you poor trolled bastard. Its alright to admit it. You were trolled and you went full retard. Take a few days off and get back to center and you will be fine.
