Why Did Saban Not Let Kiffin Speak With the Media When He Was At Alabama?

Does anyone have any idea why Saban kept Kiffin on such a short leash when Kiffin was an assistant at Alabama? Why did Saban treat him like a child? It seems unfair to Kiffin, he surely had a lot to say when he was there.

Assistants only talked twice a year - the opening of fall camp and during the post season.

The most amazing thing about all those pre-approved monologues is that Kiffin didn’t completely derail himself. He didn’t become a bigger story than the team. It is amazing at the difference between then and now.
