I know I'm late on this, but why couldnt they get a bigger name? That horse faced loser won't win big at UF, at least not the way they have been used to the last 25 years.

Their AD wanted someone with head coaching experience. Well that is what got him to interview McElwain.

Florida hired McElwain because Foley is a worse ninja than Chris Farley, so reporters were peeping in the windows the first time they talked. This then locked Foley in to the hire, as it would be obvious that if anyone else got hired that UF had to settle for choice #2.

This lack of ninja-ness worked out great for Colorado State, as it gave them full leverage to bend Foley over a barrel for a buyout in a way that I don't think has ever happened before. They pretty much got the full $7 million buyout from UF, which is unheard of especially when you consider how cheap Foley is normally.

Because Florida has a habit of being Saban's bitch lately. It's only natural they'd try and live off daddy again.

To help their players make it to the NFL and if possible win a few games in the process.

this was a particularly bad year to be trying to find a quality head coach with prior head coaching experience.

Freeze was never even contacted by Florida. He and Jimmy Sexton def played that angle up to Ole Miss for a raise, though. That's why Sexton is the best agent in the game right now

That is one way to look at it sure.

Another way to look at it is the fact that of the three head coaches he hired prior to McElwain two of them were duds and the third burned out/quit.

I hate Florida more than anyone, but will this next 10 years of wandering the wilderness involve zero losses to Tennessee?
