Dumping coaches like that is why the SEC is where it's at. Quit trying to catch Saban, focus on being good. Look at Tennessee.

Malzhan is a high quality coach. He's one of the top SEC coaches.

Remember when he gave up a 20 point lead to LAY? I remember. That's why.

Because he could have been the coach who for the first time ever let Auburn go 0-8 in 4 years against Bama and UGA.

I'm still banking on a straight up trade with Arkansas.

Malzahn is a top coach in the conference when he gets out of his own way

But this is the first big AU win in like 3 years, so that's why people were unhappy

Here’s my honest take.

Before last night’s game I had stepped off the Gus Bus after LSU game this year. I’ve wanted and still want Gus to be the guy at AU. He recruits well, is generally liked, has kept AU out of trouble (knock on wood), has been decisive when he needed to fire coaches and made good hires and never lost team in 2015.

With that said, for being an offensive genius his O has struggled mightily in games at time and his play calling has been atrocious (Clemson 2016 and 2017, UGA last year, and LSU this year).

Gus has some personality traits, namely being paranoid and stubborn, that cause him not to be able to get out of his own way. And with AU, you always have to factor in AD/behind the scenes folks meddling.

So, I’m cautiously stepping back on the Gus Bus. Hoping that LSU game finally taught him a lesson and he’s growing as a coach.

That win yesterday bought Gus another two years

It wasn't about Saban. It was about the .500 conference record and taking top 10 talent and going unranked at the end of the season.

But he won a lot of us back.

FatBert for Gustavo?
Deal.

As part of the package deal we get psycho lady and you get the bikini-clad gold digger.

Balances it out IMO.

They're Auburn. Wanting to fire good coaches is one of their defining characteristics, along with cheating and taking in other teams' criminal rejects.

Because he stopped doing all the things that made him successful in the first place.

I'm enjoying the hell out of yesterday and hoping the LSU game was what woke him up from his 3 year slumber but we'll see if he can avoid falling back into his same old blunders.

THIS. Plus just generally not getting over the hump, not developing talent, and making 2013 seem more and more like a giant fluke the further we got away from it. I think most Auburn fans accept that they're not going to be a Nick Saban Alabama because NO ONE will have that level of success for decades. But he had to prove that he could compete with top 10ish level teams.

You’ll find out again in two weeks when Bama throttles Auburn.
