Just because both schools have to go out of state doesn't mean anything. Tennessee usually has at least 10 SEC guys instate a year. Tennessee can just get better players at other states. Arkansas can't do that.

Arkansas's recruiting problems are more to do with perception than reality. Our recruiting is solid if a bit pedestrian. Now we did suffer from having a lazy recruiter who followed everybody else around for 10 years and that hurt our brand. Petrino developed players and didn't get the same splash (or ratings) that Nutt did.. but his players showed up and contributed at a far higher rate.
Arkansas itself probably has the talent to put out 20 DI football players every year but the evaluation at the high school level just isn't there with the population. Football in the southern half of the state is in rather poor shape with lower coaching salaries and little exposure.
Arkansas will need to finish in the top 25 for another 2 or 3 years in a row to have a real shot at making recruiting easier. We have substantially changed our national presence however. We no longer just grab the first 12 to 15 arkansas players we can get and then fill up on Texas leftovers. We actually evaluate and recruit nationwide now.

Tennessee had 23 instate players go to a bcs school last year. Arkansas had 6....

Congratulations, you beat around 6 true freshmen starters including a true freshmen quarterback.
Bobby Petrino's record was 5-7 at Arkansas when he had to play as much freshmen as Dooley did last year.
I don't know how many were starters but Arkansas played 16 true freshmen during the 2008 season. Plus, we had the Great Casey Dick as QB.

I see the point, it's at least 150 feet above your head.

Dooley played 18 his first year. UT had Matt Simms and true freshmen Justin Worley at qb.

No you don't. It is ignorant to compare UT to Arkansas in recruiting, yet every post about Arkansas's recruiting always involves Tennessee for some reason.

We signed 7 instate last year, how do you figure we only had 6 go in the entire BCS?
And you missed the point anyway.

No.
Kids want to be here - this despite the decade of futility we just went through.
Conversely, Arky's had a remarkable four year run. But hardly any heavily recruited kids want anything to do with you. That means whatever is keeping kids from signing with Arky is so stingy in nature that not even winning - recruiting's ultimate gambit -can eradicate it.
Recruiting is the lifeline of any program - it's the pulse of it. You guys are flatlining. But don't worry. You won't actually die until 2013.

247 has us in the top 30 right now with only half the class, last year we finished at 28.
