Is Alabama the Elephants or Tide? You have two also. We just do it to confuse UGA fans.

They also have 5 D2 final 4s and 2 x NCs in shooty hoops.
Early 90s was a good time for TUNA.

Tigers' dominance over hogs. Hogs are tigers' choice of food!

What is a nittany
Penn State is located in the Nittany Valley. So a lion found there would be a Nittany Lion. Similar to referring to LSU as the Bayou Bengals.
Southeastern in Hammond, Louisiana had a lion mascot located in a cage on the campus in the late 60's. It was named Roomie after Roomie Wilson. Roomie was originally named Lobo which means grey wolf. I cannot remember if the students voted on the original name or not. Roomie was eventually moved to the Audubon Park zoo in New Orleans.
From online:
quote:
The name of Southeastern's mascot - believe it or not - was initially Lobo and was selected by a panel of judges in 1964. As you can imagine, the name Lobo (spanish for wolf) failed to gain popularity and shortly thereafter the name was changed. The SLU mascot was renamed to honor a noted figure in the sports world, Hollis "Roomie" Wilson, a former Southeastern athlete and faculty member and well known throughout the nation as one of the top football officials.

If I’m not bad mistaken the mountains around the Penn State campus is called the Nittany Mountains which is where the word Nittany comes from. The Penn State mascot is also mountain lions not lions you would find in Africa.

Given the history around Penn State - they really ought to change the mascot to the Bears.

Everyone should fear the University of Arkansas Monticello's Boll Weavil mascot.
