First, he had much better athletes. Second, he ran mostly cover 3 press. HUGE fricking difference.

You can't run straight drop coverage against the air raid, it's how A&M/USC and Baylor/OU type blowouts from last year happen. I've never seen a defense do that and lose by less than 20.

Because we have a lot of experience beating the shite out of Kevin Steele led defenses. We've seen him in action.

He didn't have straight drop back coverage the whole game. WVU was just that fricking good. The greatest defense in LSU history almost got torched by them.

Are you really that stupid? Seriously? I guess the SEC as a whole will take a huge shite on Chavis' defense at A&M this year considering.

besides at QB

This is the issue. Football is a QB's game in 2015. You can have NFL talent everywhere else, any solid defense can stop you without a QB who can occasionally make defenses pay.

Like hell it was

Dude was in the bottom 4 in the ACC in total defense three of his four years there.

Congrats on crushing a baylor program that was dead in the water in the 90s.

You can't just act like Baylor is the same athletic program it used to be. The Baptists have thrown hundreds of millions into their athletic program the last 15 years, and it's paying off.

Look. LSU did not upgrade with Steele, we get it already. It's not like we think LSU just landed the hybrid of Nick Saban and Bill Cowher.

What we like is that Brick Haley is no longer around due to flat out nepotism from Chavis, and the fact recruiting has finally picked back up. There's been a blatantly obvious decline in talent on defense, and even you guys acknowledge that when comparing the rosters.

You guys are seemingly distraught because we're not mourning Chavis' departure like Kim Jong Un's death in NK. it's okay to not take a steamy poo on every single thread related to LSU. Of course Steele has question marks, but we still have a lot to be excited about.

You realize we fired that guy and readily admit he was a terrible DC, right?

That guy's resume is BETTER than Steele's by a healthy margin. Ouch.

I don't know why y'all are discussing this. Bunch of LSU fans made it very clear to me night before last that Steele was NOT hired to coach, just to recruit. And that the best position coaches in the world would be controlling the defense, not Steele. So it seems that what he did or didn't do back when he had the freedom to coach is irrelevant

You deny 2011 LSU had more defensive talent than 2011 Clemson?

really? I will defend him and have encountered NO cognitive dissonance. you can fathom what the frick you want to.

he is what we have and has never coached a game as a DC in the SEC. i'll reserve my opinion until at least I see our defenses. his defenses, sans one year, were pretty good at Clemson and the year he struggled they were damn young. but whatever, he is getting another shot at being a DC.

but I forgive your slam. why? because you are an aggie and you don't know what the frick an effective defense is. you are simply just ignorant on the subject.

I just like how they boast about having similar to equal talent to LSU on defense, when they were the biggest dumpster fire in the conference on defense. It's not exactly something to brag about and pretty much backs up our concerns about LSU's drop in talent on defense.

Do they think it's merely coincidence LSU is crushing on the recruiting trail now that Brick and Chavis are gone?

Brandon Harris? He has a better arm and he's faster than Kyle Allen. If doesnt get stage freight I think we'll be okay.

LSU played WVU that same year and gave up 463 yards to Geno Smith and Tavon Austin. Although we won, they still had a really good offense that year. Plus Kevin Steele was involved with recruiting all the players on last years Clemson team that finished #1 nationally. Players are the ones who are on the field playing and that'll never change.
