Actually this thread is a perfect example of why this board has turned to utter shite in the past few years. At one point a few years ago, there might have been an intelligent discussion of the game instead of fricking bullshite that has eaten up 29 pages.

Duke? So? Did you play football at Duke? I mean...you did say you played at a higher level than I did. How about the NFL? Did you play there?

LSU wins as the Tigers freefall into the abyss.

And what, exactly, did your post contribute besides "bullshite"?
Yeah, thought so.
The bottom line is this:
The game will match strength vs strength and questionable vs questionable. Offense will be UGA's strength while defense will be LSU's strength.
LSU's offense is largely an unknown at this point, but I sustpect they may have a slight advantage early in the season as teams have very little film on the Tigers offense to gage trends. Georgia's defense, while not superior last season, got the job done, but will have to replace a lot of departing players. Do they have the depth on defense to simply re-load, or will it more of a rebuild having to take a few games early on the jell.
Time will tell.
[c'mon 30!]

The thread has been so entertaining primarily because both teams could finish 8-4 or play for the national championship.
True. 8-4 would be a terrible season for either team. I'd be surprised and disappointed if LSU went 8-4, but I acknowledge that it is possible.
quote:
There's no denying that both teams lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Jarvis and Ogletree were special, while Rambo, Shawn Williams, and John Jenkins were very good college players. LSU lost plenty of talent as well, 8 defensive players drafted (a school record) with all of them being in the first five rounds.
Fact.
quote:
With that said, both teams have some continuity on that side of the ball with above average DCs returning and some experienced talent in the cupboard
"The Chief" and Todd Grantham aren't even in the same ballpark. LSU's defensive staff >>> Georgia's. Someone in this thread mentioned that Georgia hired a new defensive line coach; maybe that'll help bridge the gap. As a fan of neither team, I'd feel more comfortable in LSU's current situation than Georgia's. That doesn't Georgia can't be better though.
quote:
The offenses simply have different philosophies. UGA's was more productive as a whole throughout the year, but LSU's typically did enough to get the job done.
True. I think LSU's offense did enough to get the job done against Alabama, but the defense didn't. The same can be said for Georgia in the SEC Championship.
quote:
I still say the game comes down to the intangibles: LSU's first true road game of the year, I feel that we'll be a bit more battle-tested to that point, and we basically have two weeks prior to the game to rest and game plan for LSU with an off week and a game against North Texas. These things matter.
Perhaps. I'm not worried at all.

lol no
idk where people get this stuff about the romanticized SECr of yore but it has always been like this. The entire board was created in response to the flood of bama fans who signed up to troll LSU fans on the tiger rant after Saban was hired

Completely agree that Chief is more accomplished than Grantham. The best thing going for us on D is that this will be the first D with players that have been in Grantham's system for 3-4 years. I want to think Chris Wilson will be a better DL coach than Garner because I thought Garner had grown stale after being retained by Richt in 2001,, but being passed over for the DC position 3 different times. That coaching change could tell the tale.

I'm not worried about the loss of personnel on defense. Our recruiting and past history give every indication that we can replace a lot on defense and still be very good. On offense, we've been bad for five years and I won't believe we're good until I see it. Special teams should be solid as usual.
Georgia's home field advantage and revenge factor for the 2011 SECCG blowout will be significant. I see an atmosphere similar to 2004 and I didn't like the way that turned out. With all the talk about scheduling, though, I think LSU will be fired up for this game, which was not the case in 2004.
In my view, it all comes down to the LSU offense. If Cameron has in fact fixed the problem, we beat Georgia (and maybe everybody else). If not, this is one of two that I give us less than an even chance of winning.

How so and if that's the case, why do you still frequent the site?
I like the SEC Rant; it's fun and crazy.
I'm glad the staff isn't overly strict and we can be more grown up or immature.

I've lurked on this board since it began and the SECr is basically the exact same as it was years ago.

Exactly. The reason the SECr was create was to get all the flaming gumps off of Tigerrant.

Just because it's in Athens I'd go with Georgia

I'm only on page 3, but I have to know, how the hell did such an obvious troll thread get to 30 pages?

And Georgia has a very good chance in starting the year 0-2
No we don't. We have a decent chance to start the year 1-1, but 2-0 is far more likely than 0-2. We are going to steamroll Clemson, if you think otherwise, then haven't looked at these teams very closely.
UGA should beat LSU as well, and right now I do not expect it to be all that close, probably a spread of 10-14.
