Why did you decide to take on the task of denigrating and insulting these player’s beliefs? Would you do it if one were Jewish and the other Muslim? Or Buddhist, or whatever? Is this just “who you are,” an arsehole who thinks other people’s religious beliefs fair game?

There was no denigrating or insulting in any serious way. I think you have read way more into it than was there.
And just for the record, I despise terrorists and don't particularly care for Buddhists either. Jews are okay, you know, they make damn good movies.

Ugh, I think you may be wrong about all of that. How could God not love a game that has thousands of it's participants and coaches dedicating games and giving thanks to him week after week, year after year, decade after decade for being able to beat their opponents?
You are going to tell me that when whole teams pray before games to be able to annihilate their foes that God doesn't smile upon that?
What about after games when entire teams gather on the sidelines, or at midfield, to give thanks to God for a win?
Come on, let's not pretend God doesn't approve of that.
