Its splitting hairs. Almost every SEC program minus 2 or 3 have excellent RB squads. It comes down to OL, offense type

I crossed out the ones that have moved on from college football or transferred out of SEC. Also crossed out QB’s.
Achane was almost a 1,000 yard rusher as RB2 last year. Spiller was a fine back but Achane is freakishly fast and in a couple games showed he should have been RB1 in my opinion.

lost their co rb1 in Smith!
He might have started out the season Co#1 (due to being an upper classmen), but he didnt finish there & transferred because he would have been 3rd or 4th... at best.
Bama, Arkansas, Tenner & UGA are Tier 1. The rest are Tier nobody gives a frick.

Auburns running backs are as good as anybody in the sec and certainly better than tennessee

Great running back but Texas doesn't play in the SEC

Auburn will have enough on their hands trying to keep Harsin employed or trying to get him fired.
No doubt RB talent is there, but production may fall off due to all the "noise".

I don't think Achane is as good as Spiller. Quicker, faster... absolutely
Everything else goes to Spiller. I hope I'm wrong

Achane is a lot tougher than you think.

Spiller had better vision and cutback ability. He had better hands.
Achane just hits the hole hard and fast. If he gets past the LB’s he’s gone.
We had games where we needed a guy like Achane in. Just hit the hole hard, no dancing. Sometimes spiller was the better option.

Georgia - McIntosh/Milton
The biggest questionmark on Milton is staying healthy. He has been nic'd up each of the last 2 seasons.
The question on McIntosh is how much he can look like a version of senior James Cook. For the most part, McIntosh has appeared better than Cook year over year in development. But Cook's senior season was pretty remarkable in his ability to punish defenses in coverage.

You didn’t watch much football if you think Smith was RB1. He started out that way but was quickly passed up by Johnson/Sanders and even AJ Green

Vols should be interesting. Last year they ran RB by who was healthy and still had a top 11 rushing O (#2 in the country).
Smalls only played in 11 games but averaged 5.66 per carry. But was no threat to catch a pass.
Wright didn’t see much action til later in the year because he didn’t know the pass protections or couldn’t block. He still chipped in 400 yards in 9 games and 4 TDs.
The 3rd man in the rotation right now is Justin Williams-Thomas 4* freshman 6’ and 210
They will benefit greatly from the Heupel system and put up big numbers. If everyone is healthy they will likely have a 1,000 rusher and a QB with 500 yards.

Arkansas had a nice run game but it was spearheaded by their QB. None of their backs were elite backs. Those 3 backs averaged 3.9 yards per attempt against Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Ms st, Tx AM and LSU! That's ok but not real great! Trelon Smith averaged 4.6 yards per attempt in those games against the best defenses.
Feel free to post your own list!

Spiller was a great all around back. Solid. Dependable. Consistent.
But Achane is what our offense needs.
Last year we had an inconsistent game manager at QB, a dependable, but not game-breaking RB, and a bunch of possession recievers who catch the ball and fall down/get tackled immediately.
The result was an offense that lacked any ability to break a game open when needed. Very few big plays, lots of stalled drives. To the point where every dropped pass was likely to end a possession.
We need speed on offense in a big way. Achane getting the lions share of snaps at RB gives us a HUGE upgrade in that area right out of the gate.

Id take Tank/Hunter almost over any 2 backs in the league especially over Arkansas Backfield.

You took Gus from us. That worked out well.
