quote:Yeah, I tweeted them back that Coach Bryant was Bama's ICON, though not as a player. I think they were going with players.
I think of Bear Bryant when I think of THE Alabama icon. Definitely Archie with Ole Miss. Rest are pretty good though.

For UGA, I'd put Zeke Bratkowski. The Human Turnover Machine himself. 68 career INTs (SEC record), 29 alone in 1951 (also an SEC record), and 8 INTs thrown in the 1951 game vs GT (yeah, we lost 48-6). Truly a prolific quarterback
Hipster Reggie Ball. He coughed up turnovers in Clean Old Fashioned Hate before it was cool.

I'd still say it's Jared Lorenzen.

Crow was the A&M Athletic Director for a while and had more far-reaching impact over a longer period of time than Manziel.

Do coaches not count? Spurrier for us.

Cam is pretty close to Bo but I agree with their choice.
Ole Miss is definitely Archie Manning.

How is Missouri not Kellen Winslow?

Most CFB fans probably don't know he went there...wasn't his star status mainly from his time in the NFL?

He was a consensus All-American at Mizzou.

bout right.
Might but Snake up instead of Namath since we don't know if he has passed or not -- confusion?
Arky should be Bert cause he is fat.
Ole Miss should have Billy Brewer

and? Lots of schools have all americans.
My point was the same as it was for emmitt smith/uf...most people when they think of that player don't think of their college. Granted Miz hasn't been in the SEC long..but when I think of "missouri football" I think of people like chase daniel first and foremost. KW wouldnt' have even crossed my mind.

So what you're saying is the SEC program's ICON needs to be someone who peaked in college. That's silly.

Should Terrell Davis or Hines Ward be in the mix for the UGA spot, simply because of what they did in the NFL? What about dominique because of his time in the pros?
It's the ICON of each "SEC Football Program". One would assume that means what they player did at that SEC football program.

I dont think I would say Kellen Winslow because he was an all american or in the colllege football hall of fame. I would consider him Mizzou's ICON because of the impact he left on the game. Before Winslow TE's were never really used for much more than short passes, Winslow revolutionized a position.
It's debatable he isn't even Mizzou's best TE, but Martin Rucker or Chase Coffman probably wouldn't have the careers they did, had Winslow not changed the way you can use a TE. Just my opinion though.

I would honestly say that Dak is the icon of our program.

looks like a lot oonfusion among the late comers to the SEC. Understandable -- hopping around like you have.
BTW - For UGA it has to be Herschel. No doubt -- debate all you will but in the south, Herschel is UGA football

I'd go with Emmitt Smith over Tebow. Emmitt actually did something after his time at UF.

This guy might have something to say about that.

For A&M, if you're talking about who is most associated w/ a school, it would have to be Johnny Manziel.
Actual icon for the program, for me, would be E. King Gil. The original 12th man.
