This entire thread is about a school’s best player. One player. Not a whole team. Not an average player. You don’t seem to understand that.

I understand it well. Sometimes additional points are made during thread discussions.

Herschel Walker at the height of his college form, would be ANY team's starter today.

Unfortunately, at tight end.

Not sure who's the best overall but would love to see Fred Taylor @ RB.

Tough runner between tackles.
HR speed (4.3 at 230lbs)

While close, the answer is still Bo Jackson and yes.

No doubt.

Again, are we going to play with the officiating from 1985? If Joe Burrow has to take those kind of hits and receivers can be defended like the 85 NFL season than no, not a chance.

You guys need to remember that neither Bo Jackson nor Herschel Walker would even start today. #1

This is all about players for sure, but I'd pay real money to have gotten to turn my TV down and hear Larry Munson call the 21 championship game. Even in the 90s when the teams were terrible I had to listen. RIP

If Herschel was going to be our all time Tight End, he'd have to beat out a pretty solid guy at the position. God bless him, but Brock Bowers was pretty d@mn good

You seem to think people are drastically different today than they were in 1975. They aren’t.

That is the thing....

If you go back to the 1950s... Guys had to play both ways. Therefore they had to be smaller and they were less skilled because they couldn't develop specialty skills.

The 1970s? It was illegal to block with extended hands. Thus passing offenses were primitive. QBs weren't protected like they are now. Receivers aren't protected like they are now. Receivers didn't even play with gloves back then.

Organized strength and nutrition programs were in their infancy.

Inuries?... A grade 2+ ACL tear meant your career was over.

The fact of the matter is that a modern college team could maybe beat a pro team from those days if they played with modern rules and modern equipment.

But it would be interesting to see how the modern college team would do against a pro team back then if they had to play with the rules, equipment and restrictions of 1975.

My guess is that the modern college QB might not make it out of the first quarter.

1975 Steelers offensive line:

Jim Clack: 6’3” 250 lbs.
Sam Davis: 6’1” 255 lbs.
John Kolb: 6’2” 262 lbs.
Mike Webster: 6’1” 255 lbs.
Ray Mansfield: 6’3” 250 lbs.

2019 LSU offensive line:

Saahdiq Charles: 6’4” 295 lbs.
Austin Deculus: 6’7” 322 lbs.
Adrian Magee: 6’4” 315 lbs.
Chasen Hines: 6’4” 336 lbs.
Lloyd Cushenberry: 6’4” 315 lbs.

I know college players in recent years are supposedly a bunch of candyasses who have never taken a hard hit in their entire lives from players smaller and slower than they’re accustomed to and would probably quit and walk off the field crying if they ever did,.. but I would still take my chances with the 2019 Tigers.

How could the best player in history not be the starter today? If someone on the current roster could beat them out wouldn’t they be the best player?
