You'll know in week two how good your linebackers are.

More so than Jenkins is Mike Thornton, in my opinion. The NG is the lynchpin of our D and Thornton has to play big boy ball. If he and the DE's eat space then Jenkins will be just fine.

50lbs is a hell of a lot of weight

You didn't have to fix it, I was "wtf" the stats. That's insane.

Defensive Line for State- they will be the difference in 8 wins or 5 wins
DE's- Denico Autry and Preston Smith- backed up by Chris Jones, AJ Jefferson, and Ryan Brown
DT's- Kaleb Eulls, PJ Jones, Quay Evans, Nick James, Curtis Virges
If they play to their potential- State goes 8-4

Two ways to play pass D. You are correct but the answer is upfield play and noy downfield play.
I know a great dline can make a suspect secondary, look really good.

Front 7 is a question mark. Need a pass rusher to emerge. Alonzo Williams, Julian Obioha or Deshon Hall if he plays. All DEs.

Any Bama fan that doesn't say, "new offensive linemen", fails.

I'm not convinced that Thornton gets the starting job... I think Mayes

This why is why DL is so important for State

I agree.
Bama lost what could be argued as the best offensive line in college football history.
Lacy and Yeldon had wide open holes. McCarron had all day.
With those big boys gone to the NFL, there are big shoes to fill. I assume Saban has equally talented guys ready to go, but losing that line is a big big big factor. Big shoes to fill.

On offense, most LSU fans will say Mett but I think the WRs need to step up.
On defense, it has to be the DEs

On defense, clearly the entire young linebacker position. IMO our DL and DB units will be stout to spectacular, but what will make or break our defense again being a top defense will be how fast our LBs settle in...
On offense, several areas: Our RB and WR positions need to have players rise to the occasion. In both cases there's no specific person that needs to be named as it could be one of any, but it's still important.
At RB, we'll have proven rs-So. Wilds (486 yds, 3 TD in 107 att in '11, rushed for 97 ypg and scored 3 TDs in a 4-gm stretch at end of '11) who missed last season to a high-ankle strain, and true So. Davis (275 ypg, 2 TD in 52 att) competing for the top job. Both may share the load around 50-50/60-40 for most of the season, or could lose the job to one of several other talented backs on the roster. Need to remain healthy this season, as the last 2 seasons the unit was ravaged...
At WR we'll have returning true-Jr. veterans Ellington (600 yds in 40 rec., 7 TD) and Byrd (366 yds in 14 rec., 3 TD) to anchor the unit. Also return true So. Roland (80 yds in 5 rec., 1 TD) plus rs-Fr. Fuller and Smith who are expected to factor in.
With the veteran QB Shaw throwing to experienced Ellington and co., I expect the passing offense to improve over last season, and from comments made this off-season so does Coach Spurrier. At RB the talent is definitely there plus a degree of experience. In both cases, if our OL plays as expected they will have opportunities to improve over last season's offensive production, which was among the best under Spurrier at USC....

I've heard this a few times, but it doesn't seem to work that easily for South Carolina. Tennessee kept them in check last year and scored 5 offensive touchdowns. There are a few other games where teams had 300+ yard passing games against South Carolina the past 2 seasons despite the big names on their roster.
Alabama is the most talented in the country, but they don't generate the best past rush. However, they shut down Bobby Petrino's Arkansas while South Carolina was busy getting blown out. Last year, Alabama handed Tennessee their worst loss, 44-13 despite the issues the team had against the strong passing attacks of a lights on LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia.

Coach Cameron/QB's. If they are in synch, the QB's do what he wants them to do, LSU will have a very fine team this year. If not...well, that's just going to suck.
