Can we do different eras of Blue Bloods?
A blue blood by definition means beyond an era

UGA, Florida, LSU all have more NCs in the last 50 years than every blueblood except Bama.
Clemson has more NCs in the last 10 years than everyone except Alabama and UGA.
From 1981 to 1984 BYU had more NCs than any blue blood

Blues since at least the 30s

This type of thing helps fill the empty summer, but it's completely subjective. Big 6, Blue Bloods, EA Top 25, all meaningless. What matters right now is which team raises the trophy on January 20, 2025.

The inclusion of pro bowlers, all-pros and NFL HoFers tells me that someone in charge of list making's favorite team wasn't as high as they wanted and really needed to figure out how to put a thumb on the scale.

A fair cop, sadly. This is about as close as we can claim to a non-regional rivalry with another significant or semi-significant football power. We came close to having a thing with Southern Cal but the two teams are too far apart and we never ended up playing each other frequently enough.
All things considered, though, relations between Alabama and PSU have always been rather cordial. I've never personally had an interaction with Penn State fans which was anything less than friendly and pleasant.

Do you know that's not true? I'm not saying LSU should be a Blue Blood, but prior to us having 42 wins taken away 10 years ago, we were in the top 10 or 11 in total wins.
What I'm saying is that if you can kick out Yale and Princeton, then why not Nebraska and Tennessee? Is it because they still have more wins than most others?

Blue blood just means old.
Nothing special

quote:Well... we don't compare the IB to Red River because it's an invalid comparison. Auburn is little brother. The IB more like what Bedlam would be if Okie State were actually... you know... good at football, historically.
And this is why the Iron Bowl will never be better than the Red River Rivalry.
A closer comparison would be the Third Saturday in October, bearing in mind that Tennessee hasn't always been the runny dogshit they've been for the last couple decades and that there is some real fricking bad blood between us and the hill trash.

Well it's not their fault UTjr spent 20 years as a dumpster fire.
Now, it’s Florida time as a dumpster fire.

We are almost 25% of the way into the 21st century. If you have not won a NC in this century, you are not a blue blood, IMO.
Bama has won many NC's in this century. LSU has won 3. Ohio State has won 2 as have Florida and Georgia.

quote:Ding Ding! We have a winner. My dad still has one of those electric football board things with the plastic players that move in all sorts of directions when the board vibrates. Know what is on the box? Darrell K. Royal football and the Longhorns logo. It was from the early 70's and he got it when he was about 10.
It's actually the 60's, 70's and early 80's.
That is when college football started to become mainstream. Games started to get televised occasionally, and the teams that were successful in those times were building up the biggest fan bases and became national brands.
So basically, if you were among those teams, your odds of having a game televised was greatly increased etc.
It's more a historical novelty than it is anything meaningful. I don't know why people get hung up on it.
I wasn't around back then but those who were know the SWC was more comparable to the SEC in those days.

Imagine having such a lack of a productive life that your identity revolves around college football.
I can’t imagine that because my life is more than college football.
To each their own.
