Maybe kryptonite isn’t the best way to put it.

Over the last 10 years or so, which team does your team play that in general is worse or comparable to your team but often inexplicably seems to beat you or play you really close anyway?

My guesses:

Alabama- Ole Miss
Arkansas- Missouri
Auburn- Georgia
Florida- Missouri
Georgia- South Carolina
Kentucky- Mississippi State
LSU- Alabama
Missouri- Kentucky
Ole Miss- Arkansas
South Carolina- Kentucky
Tennessee- Vanderbilt
Texas A&M- LSU
Vanderbilt- South Carolina

The only one I couldn’t come up with anything for is Mississippi State. They win the majority of games against Arky, Ole Miss, Aggy, and Kentucky, but lose to Auburn, Alabama, and LSU a lot. They don’t really have a kryptonite.

Alabama's only Kryptonite is Auburn at Jordan Hare.

Auburn in JHS is Alabama's kryptonite, as much as I hate to admit it.

ETA: Damn you Tuscaloosa

Ole Miss either won or played you close in 4 of the last 10. That’s a pretty high rate considering they are Ole Miss and you’re Alabama.

This. If you look at Alabama's win % against the rest of the SEC, it's noticeably lower against Auburn than it should be. Still positive of course, but considering the overal success gap between the programs, should be bigger.

No team in the country gets up for a game more so than Auburn does against Alabama, they play way over their heads against Alabama consistently, always have.

Then they'll go out and lose to Minnesota in the bowl game or some shite.

Yeah but the overall series is 52-10-2, that's not kryptonite.

Vanderbilt has lost to South Carolina 10x in a row.

That’s pretty bad considering they’ve had some winning seasons and SC has had some losing seasons.

So yes, you are Vanderbilt’s kryptonite. They can’t beat SC no matter how bad they are.

Winning two games in 10 years - their only 2 wins since Eli Manning - and losing the rest by a combined 253 points (31+ point average) isn't Kryptonite, either. They've lost 66-3 and 62-7 in two of the last 3 years.

2015 is the only year in which Vandy has finished with a better record (conference and overall) than South Carolina since 2008.

Missouri for sure. God it's been annoying. Though some years they were legit much better teams, especially the four win seasons.

The only answer. Weird shite happens to Bama in JHS. Barn gets every bounce, every break, every call.....they truly have unreal luck against us there

I would say that MSU and A&M are our kryptonite. The main reason we've sucked against them lately is because we've sucked, but we've come so close against A&M and MSU has always been a tough out for us (along with everyone else, imo.) They're like our Baylor, who Arkansas struggled the most with in the SWC, outside of Texas.

Missouri hasn't been that surprising to me, because again, we've sucked, but Mizzou and Kentucky would be my picks for the East.

barn is the only answer here

ETA: to expound on this, when OM beats Bama, it's "Oh wow, Dr. Bo/Chad threw for like 800 yards against Bama's defense and outgunned them for four quarters, holy cow is Saban not gonna be happy with that secondary." Yeah, there's never a question that Bama is always the better overall team, but that's just kinda what OM is built to do.

When Bama plays in Auburn, regardless of who looks like the better team, every single person in that stadium is gonna leave half-stunned googling the NCAA rulebook wondering wtf just happened

Texas A&M is the correct answer here. The amount of near misses Arkansas has had with TAMU is LSU-Bama post 1/9/2012 esque. I feel bad for them.

Correct. the two wins that Ole miss stole by cheating don't mean as much as the many many win Auburn has with their voodoo magic.

Uh, Gus beats the Sun Belt teams.

“Inexplicably” does not apply.

The teams that have manhandled us consistently over Gus’s tenure have been Georgia, LSU, and Bama. They have done it by dominating us at the line of scrimmage. They have outplayed and out coached us in general.

Most of Gus’s wins have either been teams without equal talent, teams in chaos, Sunbelt, CUSA, FCS, etc.
