Throw in the Refs. If you go deep, you are going to get a crew that calls fouls close. That is where depth will have to come in for a team.

Auburn is much more than a team that just shoots and makes 3s.

They have stellar guard play, the make shots, they drive to the goal, they board, they have scoring off the bench, they defend, they press, and they block shots.

But The 2 biggest attributes to this team are they're tough(mentally and physically) and they make free throws.

8 guys are enough to win a national championship when you have great guard play...

I am old school in my belief in that you cant change things overnight. Auburn and maybe UT are my old two teams i would pick to make serious noise. Alabama, A&M and Kentucky are built for a run but they are so damn inconsistent. Nothing tells me they are going to rip off 3 wins in a row over quality opponents on a neutral floor.

This is a big factor. Too many teams give up 5-10 points a game to poor FT Shooting. Look at each schedule and see if it makes a difference.

Free throws also can extend runs or stave off dry spells.

This is a really good point.

Runs get unnaturally extended even when shooting goes cold, and the droughts are far more manageable.

ESPN computer sims say we've got the best chance of any 4 seed to make the final 4 and IIRC they run 50,000 sim games per projected game. But I'm still not too keen on that.

We've had an outstanding year given Barnes has managed to do the seemingly impossible with a very young group of no-names and a ~6 foot 6 'big.' The vast majority of teams we've played have had more talent and/or experience. But lately we have slowed down a bit and I'm worried that the grind of the season has taken its toll.

We're simply nowhere close to a lot of other SEC teams on paper but playing complimentary shooty hoops and good coaching has caused us to overachieve. I hope we keep that up but that's asking a lot.

Now that MPJ is coming back. I think we're built for elite 8. MPJ will take away minutes(completely) from Cullen tGoat Vanleer. Vanleer blows. MPJ does not.

Vanleers mvp-like stats for this season:

14.1/min - .38/FG - .31/3pt - 1.4/reb - 1.0/ast - 2.6/pts

O ya, hes a shooting guard who is 0-7 from the line this season.

Yea, adding a kid on to a team after basically not being there all season never has any negative side effects.

I think A&M and Bama have teams that can do some damage in the NCAAT. AU will depend on matchups but we have a chance, too.

I'm thinking Bama and Auburn do. Best chances really.

Kyrie missed almost the entire 2011 duke season. He made it back and got two practices in before tourney started. only two practices(!). He averaged 17 points a game during the 3 game run before losing to AZ in the sweet 16.

MPJ will have at least 6-8 practices including 2+ games before the tournament starts. Plus, Lunardi said him coming back will help mizzou with seeding.

Any team not coached by Mike Anderson or Cuonzo Martin

Didn't say it wasn't possible...just that it is insane to assume it will be a huge difference.

Also Mizzou and Duke.

So then the impact on mizzou should be greater?

Actually, the likelyhood Mizou will find that much help from is less. It's also unlikely MBJ is a NBA All-Star caliber player like KI, but it isn't out of the question.

Just so we're on the same page here, MPJ was far better than Kyrie entering college.

it's quite literally the biggest factor. Someone bump this thread when we have brackets to work with.
