It just looks stupid. It's too much and looks overdone.
Speaking of the 80's though, the LSU helmet below, from 1984-1987, is probably the greatest LSU helmet in its history.

This was the special Jocelyn Wildenstein edition that LSU did for her birthday. I think she was born in Baton Rouge.
