The crystal football may have existed from 1986 to 1998 but it didn't really become "the prize" until the BCS gave us the closest thing Division I has ever had to a Super Bowl type game.

This is some dumb shite right here. Just because your team didn't get a sniff in the 90s, the crystal football wasn't a big deal back then? Just incredibly mind numbingly stupid.

Bama actually has more question marks at the QB position than we do, for a change.

How so? Without seeing either of their starters play, how can you say this? We have all seen JJ play, and many LSU fans could care less if he ever played again.

I'm going to have to side with the Bammers on this one.

OP originally said crystal balls. OP did not clarify that he meant only in BCS era.

Admittedly, I didn't realize the coaches' trophy had been a crystal football since inception in 1986. Nobody cared about the coaches' trophy until the BCS era made the crystal football the ultimate prize.

But, the Bammers are correct to hammer the OP for saying "crystal ball" without further qualification. They have two crystal balls in their trophy case, same as LSU.

Accurate. Which is why the AP is easier to find when googling. It was the standard until everyone agreed the BCS champ would be awarded the Coaches trophy.

Florida has three (1996, 2006, 2008).

Alabama has two (1992, 2009).

LSU has two (2003, 2007).
Let's say fourth. I think the winner of the Bama-LSU game wins the national title and in 2012 LSU wins it. 2013 is too far ahead to predict.

If we're talking BCS, IMO, nobody from the SEC wins the crystal ball this coming year. Florida or LSU will have a chance in '12, while Bama has an outside chance. Then in '13 Bama's chance will be really good.

LINK

Don't make me hunt for a pic of the 1996 crystal football.

ETA: Found it!

You're thinking BCS era.
The Coaches Trophy was given before then.

3 teams have won it 3 time. Nebraska, Miami, and UF.
