In this scenario, you could have a 12-1 team left out over that one game.

When has that ever happened?

No because "TOP 4" is stupid if you have 5 teams/groups eligible.

Should kids play musical chairs with a chair for every kid? That way everyone is a winner. No one gets their little feeling hurt.

Why not do 8

5 power 5 champions
best team from group of 5
2 at large teams

This way conference champs means something, if an upset happens it does not take a great team out and keeps the group of 5 from crying

Id go 3 before a 6. Have the 1 seed get a bye. We dont need more. Its fine at 4. Then next option is back at two. Sports talk saying that it needs to grow...is just self serving people looking for a pay raise

16 team play off using the biggest 15 bowls for those games. 10 conference champions plus 6 at large berths.

Additionally, have 10 traditional bowl games for the twenty teams just outside the top 16.

36 teams make it to postseason. Gets rid of about 15 useless bowl games that we have today. It would get back to having to earn either the play-off spot or a bowl game. Teams would get rewarded for playing a tougher schedule but not winning their conference.

Play offs start the third Saturday in December and wind up on the second Saturday of January.
Bowls games would be interspersed like they are currently.

Win-Win all around.

You got to give a reared to the Top 2 in the country...An undefeated #1 team has deserved the right to earn a bye.

Well, Mississippi State could certainly opt to stay home.

Or are you really going to try and make a serious argument that Vandy's bowl game is useless but yours isn't?

What is it about that fact that most fans don't think a 3 loss team should get in that is lost on some of these people?

Go ahead and drop the bowls. People just aren't into them anymore, now that there's a playoff.

You could always start a change.org petition demanding that LSU stay home this year. After all, since you're not into the game, right?

Let's see LSU decide to stay home and not play UCF. Yeah, that would be popular.

Yes, because a playoff should be all about goddamn participation awards.

This is the most LSU post ever.

what a joke post. if alabama lost 3 games and won the SEC you'd be the first to be hollering to get in. as would the whole state of alabama.

This year a 6 team playoff would seem to work the best, IMO. Others years an 8 team might.

I've wanted for a while. 12 teams. Top 4 conference champs get a bye. Tough shite ND, join a conference. All conference champs get in. Give them a true shot. Then there a couple at large, for non champs that did have a great season. First two played at the higher seeds home stadium.(Tulane can't use the Dome)

Conference champions shouldn't receive automatic berths. The first time there is an 11-1 or even a 12-1 non champion that doesn't get in because of a 8-5 or even 9-4 PAC12 champ gets in then people will be screamimg for more teams.
Say as an example, you have this type of finish among the conferences

SEC
BAMA 13-0 winner
UGA 12-1
LSU 11-1

BIG10
Ohio State 12-1
Michigan 11-1
Penn State 11-2 winner

ACC
Clemson 12-1
Pittsburgh 8-5 winner

BIG12
OU 11-2
Texas 9-4 winner

PAC12
Washington 9-4 winner
Stanford 11-2

Is 9-4 UW or 8-5 Pitt really deserving? Who gets left out?

I agree 100%, however, if every conference chose its championship game opponents like the Big 12, Pitt and Northwestern wouldn't have been playing. But the whole conference champion argument assumes that all 5 conferences are equal, when they clearly aren't.
