not sure about actual fake classes but athletes definitely knew what classes to take where teachers would turn a blind eye to blatant cheating

that's a PE class offered to all students at UT, still is. I took it my last summer in college as I needed one credit to graduate. It's no different than any of the other bullshite PE classes offered for an hours credit

I never know how to respond to stuff like this. On one hand, I have zero doubt Franklin would have been down for fake classes. On the other hand, I seriously doubt Vandy admin would have, and there's no way Franklin had the power to pull off something like this without the admins.
I have a very good friend who was a former Vandy player in the early 00's. He goes back regularly to check up on the football team.
During Franklin's tenure, he told me about a big-time shift in academics which put a lot of Vandy players in classes outside of Vandy proper. Maybe Berry College or something like that? He joked that it was a whole different world from when he was there.
As for Kentucky, while I'm sure most athletes study with easier course loads or in less intensive majors than are available. I'm not sure how that's any different from any other liberal arts degree-seeking undergrad who spend approximately 45 hours a week drinking and smoking weed and approximately 15 hours a week on coursework.
Bud Dupree recently graduated with a degree in "Community Leadership and Development" from UK's Ag College, which I'm sure wasn't the world's most rigorous academic endeavor, but I'm positive that he had to attend classes and do coursework for it.

I can believe that. I don't want to, but I can. But Berry College? That's a bit of a drive and, as far as I know, the two don't have any sort of "arrangement". Hard to transfer credits without some sort of system in place. Maybe there were some shenanigans over at Peabody instead.

I think the lawsuit against UNC combined with the comments the former Okie State players made to the Boomer Sooner Sports Illustrated writer should wave a huge red flag to every program. It may take a while, but if you as a program force college professors to pass failing students, it will come back to haunt you.
LSU has had several recent cases of player ineligibility due to grades, and our fans think our compliance dept is ridiculous compared to other schools, but I don't want a law suit 10 years from now from a former player who never went to class or turned in his assignments alleging our coach told him he didn't have to. And more lawsuits of the UnC sort are coming, of that I have no doubt

This sounds more familiar than Berry.

I'm sure most schools did to some degree at one point but I imagine that most have curbed that practice now

Over the five years I was at UT I took the following classes.
Bowling
Golf
Skiing
Swimming
Soccer
Volleyball
Tennis
Weight Lifting
I think that is it.
Helped keep my GPA over 3.0 so I could keep that Hope scholarship!
So ours aren't just for athletes!

What's wrong with walking? I've heard it's a very healthy activity, and isn't that what Physical Education classes should be about?

From the SI Vault, October 17, 1966: When a writer tried to tease him about his classes at Alabama, asking if he majored in basket-weaving, Joe Namath said, "Naw, man, journalism - it was easier."
42 years later he graduated from Alabama with a bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies.

3000 level class final exam
Dammit. I was coasting to a perfect score and then wrote Steve Wojciechowski for the last question. As it turns out, my opinion was wrong. That test was harder than it looks.

Sorry I didn't elaborate. The article was more about the fact that the athletes were taking the class and getting credit for it for eligibility, whereas most schools offer these kinds of classes on a Pass/Fail basis.

Isn't Kinesiology akin to fake classes?

All students still get an actual letter grade for most PE classes at UT. It's only a one hour class though
