The Bear is ahead Claiborne at UK.
I think you could argue Curci or Brooks up there as well. Brooks pulled off 4 consecutive bowl games (no one had done that since Bryant) and IMO did it despite reduced scholarships from probation. Curci is the only non-Bear coach at UK to win a SEC Championship and would've had two if not for sanctions.
Personally, I'd put Brooks up there. Simply because of what he did with what he inherited.

I'd have to say Curly Hallman

Why I listed AU as hard because of Dye. Was he best or was it Jordan. You make case for both.
I agree. I almost put Dye and Jordan is 1a and 1b.
It is hard to say which did more for AU honestly.
Dye would have certainly surpassed Jordan if not for the Eric Ramsey stuff. He won a NC in 1983 and was 1 play away from probably another in 1988, one loss in 1987 to UF kept him from a shot at another and he might would have won one in 1993 as well. We were undefeated and the Ramsey probation kept us from playing for it.
Also, Dye, Bryant, and Spurrier are th only coaches in SEC history to win/share 3 straight SEC championships.

Overall, I think Majors had a better career than Fulmer. But actually at Tennessee, Fulmer's tenure was better IMO

1A-D.
Miles: 85-21, 2 CC's, 1 NC
Saban: 48-16, 2 CC's, 1 NC
Chollie Mac: 137-59-7, 1 CC
Paul Deitzel: 46-24-3, 2 CC, 1 NC
Based on accomplishment/longevity/importance to University all pretty close to me. In 5 years I'd say it would be Coach Miles pretty easily. We'll see.

Wally Butts gets docked for UGA because he gave Bear secrets.

Phil is ahead of Majors because of the BCS Title.
Majors wins a National Title at UT and he's definitely ahead of Fulmer.

Dye is easily better than Jordan. Jordan's career was kinda up and down. He had some great years and he had some really lackluster years. Until the last two year, Dye was very consistent and won 4 SEC Championships, and a case for a NC.

General Neyland.

I meant the second best. #1 is even more easily Neyland

Archer > Hallman. Mike took a good program with a good team and destroyed it. Hallman merely took a whiz on it.
All hail Archer.

Carolina to me is tough
You got 3 guys to put in two spots
Morrison built them back was a winner and building great program then dies
Holtz rebuilds after Brad Scott, enough said
Spurrier making NYD bowls and competing for divisions annually a reality

Honestly I tend to agree. Jordan is just revered at AU while Dye, although he gets lots of credit, really doesn't get enough. I get highly annoyed when any AU fan is critical of Dye, which happens too often IMO.
For me, I would say Dye. Ask most AU fans and it is Jordan though.

If Spurrier actually stays another 5 years it would have to be him, imo. Having SCar as an elite team over time is tremendous.
Posted on 7/27/13 at 3:56 pm to dbt_Geaux_Tigers_196
That makes him 1 then, but who is 2?
Posted on 7/27/13 at 3:59 pm to sms151t
Not a hack on SCar, I really like their program but....I know LSU, a bit of UA, UT, AU, some of the others...SCar? Gawd bless 'em.
Go Gamecocks.

There's a tendency for the average fan to look at NCs and nothing else. I think that being consistently great trumps a guy with a NC, but was otherwise inconsistent
