Where does Oats rank in Bama basketball history if he somehow makes a final 4?

Does he jump straight to 2nd or does he sit firmly at 3rd until we see what he does next season?

Tied second with Gottfried with potential to climb.

Gottfried isn’t second. The only question is do you put CM or Wimp first.

Wimp.
CM
Soon to be Oats

I remember only the last few years of CM, so my preference is Wimp but CM’s historical record at Bama is superb. I won’t attempt to sway anyone who ranks him first.

Why not #1?
Only final 4.
Only final 4.

My post isn't a slap at Wimp at all. But IMO Newton doesn't get the credit he deserves as an outstanding coach,at least in the 1970s. The way he built Alabama was masterful.
Unfortunately the way the NCAA Tournament was formatted at the time his Alabama NCAA Tournament record is 1-2. Big deal, right? But if you had had 64/68 teams in the Tournament in the 1970s his 1973,1974 and 1977 teams would have easily been in the Tournament and with seeding the 1976 team probably would have been a 2 seed outside of Indiana's regional.
Remember his 1974 team was co-champs with Vanderbilt, but lost both games to Vandy, 73-72 and 67-65 in the Final season of one representative from a conference. And since Alabama hosted the Mideast Regional they were ineligible for the NIT and short lived CCA.

1. Wimp
2. Newton
3. Crisp (arguably the best season - but in the 20s-30s so who cares)
4. Gottfried
5. Oats - great 2nd year, but we can wait to see if he can become a consistent 2nd weekend team in the Tourney. If so, it could be a short distance between 5 and 1.

They beat Duke in a finals for a championship

I’m going to wait until 2-4 more years before I rank him. I want to see if he can sustain and build on success.

CM came to Alabama during a tough time for Alabama basketball. After the Eugene Lambert and Hayden Riley eras, times were hard and he brought them all the way back to being a highly respected nat'l program.

Takes a senior laden team that he didn’t recruit to the sweet 16 and y’all are ready to call him the basketball version of Saban because he wears Ross dress for less gimmick suit jackets.
Whined on PMT about fouls a couple days ago too.
Going to be funny when the league starts to shut down his wannabe Warriors system.

Lol Herb and Petty have been the only consistent senior contributors. And Petty was not playing well until Maryland in the postseason.

Maybe you haven't heard, but his name is NATE GOATS. Thanks.

What a retarded post.
It used to be a compliment when a coach could take another coach's players (who they struggled to win with) and then win with them.
And Josh Primo, Jahvon Quinerly, Keon Ellis etc. are all his players.

Because one season doesn't make a career. See Gene Chizik for reference.
