Honest Question. I thought yall were just forced into being rivals by the SEC but it seems like yall really hate each other now.

What started it?

1. A&M hires Jimbo. LSU fans pretend they never wanted him.
2. 74-72. Commence crying about refs from LSU fans (what else is new).

Well I can tell you this, LSU fans on here were truly excited and thrilled that A&M was joining the conference.

I remember the threads, and the barking about their old rivalry etc. regardless of how they try to act now.

Maybe on this board but I've never had any issues with A&M fans at the games I've gone to in any sport.

The worse fans to ever come to Baton Rouge in my opinion has been Florida especially when Spurrier was running this conference and LSU was terrible.
But even Fla fans have toned it down now that LSU and Fla have consistently been on the same level.
LSU doesn't fear the Swamp like it used to.
And I actually enjoyed my visit to the Swamp in Saban's first year, Fla fans weren't bad at all.

Even Bama fans are tolerable despite the win streak.

A&M seemed to hate LSU from the moment they entered the SEC. Not sure why.

I don't hate A&M. I rarely think of them at all.

There's a proximity consideration. Tons of LSU fans in the Houston metro area/east Texas.

LSU and Texas A&M have played almost 60 times in history so it's not like they just started when A&M joined the SEC.

A&M mad cause LSU quit the series in 1995 after losing like 5 times in a row.

Then LSU gave A&M all kinds of shite for losing 7 times in a row.

Now Aggie has 74-72 to hold over LSU's head

Seems like a solid rivalry not totally manufactured by the SEC

Also, they stole Pat Henry

From maybe 1 or 2 old farts. Most of us didn't care one way or another. Most of us still don't.

Though I will say that now a lot of LSU fans understand that UT was 100% right about those weirdos.

He walked because Skip didn't care about track. He would have likely stayed otherwise.

I know, just made it seem more nefarious to say they stole him.

LSU and Texas A&M have a long history (at least in Football) that goes back prior to the Aggies joining the SEC

ATM misses daddy Texas so they are trying to use LSU to fill the void. Add in the facts that LSU is better in every big 3 sport and LSU owned the best player in Aggy football history gives you a perfect recipe for lil bro syndrome.

It’s been intense since the first time the two schools played.
It was definitely hostile when we faced each other regularly in the late 80s/early 90s.
The Internet has simply cast a brighter light on it.
I agree that proximity is likely a big reason why.
