What's the go/no go date for college football?

Surely they are already looking at possibilities and contingencies, aren't they? Opening night is Friday, August 28. When will they have to make a decision about whether or not to start on time? July 1, for example? I fully expect the worst will be over by then...but no one ever expected March Madness to be canceled.

Also, will they allow fall practice to begin earlier to make up for the loss of the spring?

Sorry if discussed already.

I think we will know a whole lot more by July.

They will get every coach to play through the season on NCAA14

I expect we will know even sooner than that. But college football logistically dwarfs basketball. I wonder if they're thinking of a decision date.

I believe if they are not practicing by August 10th all September games will be cancelled. It may be a season on the brink! U. of Tenn researchers are believed to be near a cure/vaccine to turn the tide of COVID-19 should this be the case and it gets implemented in the very near future, football may be saved. So, go Vols! We're all behind you on this.

there was a doc on inside edition this morning that said things could be settled down a bit by mid-may if everyone does their part in taking precaution during the quarantine/lockdown

There are already other vaccines being tested on humans. The thing is, it takes around 14 months of monitoring the patients to make sure the vaccine is safe. So no matter who develops it, it sounds like it will take a while until it is widely available to the public.

They keep saying a vaccine is 6 months to 1 year away so let's hope for the best.

That isn't going to happen. Trump said his medical staff advisors have told him if everything goes right, this thing will be flattened out by July/August. That doesn't mean it will be cured. Just that the exorbitant rate it is spreading will be behind us.

If we see any kind of football this upcoming season, I will be as shocked as I am in seeing all leagues, casinos, Disney, Universal, and Broadway shut down.

So you’re saying that you will be shocked if something that is 5 months away happens because of the coronavirus? China had their big outbreak in December and the casinos in Macau are already back open. If there is no football this year, then we will have royally fricked up as a nation.

when our health officials in charge are saying it will be at least July/August before this thing even flattens out, yes.

China has been dealing with this since at least last Nov.. They shut down their entire country to get ahead of it. That's what it took. Italy has done that. Until we shut down everything, it will continue to spread at an alarming rate.

ETA our health officials are asking everybody to self-quarantine for 15 days. If we did that as a country, we would get ahead of this..............but you damn well know we won't do this.

It's not going to happen. Sure they may try it but someone will get sick and it will all shut down again. Just plan on no sports for 2020.

To a certain extent we are. I'm off the next two weeks, but where am I gonna go? The government isn't making me stay home, but there are no restaurants, bars, concerts, movie theaters, gyms, or casinos to go to.

My best guess is that the season will happen but the early part of it may be affected. I’m thinking no fans at the first game IF the season kicks off in August.

I think we’ll mostly be back to normal then, but there will still be concerns about having mass gatherings and travel. We definitely do not want to relapse if some of y’all think our economy is bad now, good god I cannot imagine what it would be like if we had to repeat this shite.

I’m just hoping they push the season back without cancelling games.

College kids are stupid.

Just curious...was this one of the beaches that banned alcohol?

I think most along the Emerald Coast have done that, yes.

ETA that is only during Spring Break months. They put a stop to that when people stood around and filmed some girl getting raped on the beach in the middle of the day and did nothing but watch.

If you really believe this, you don't do economics very well.
