No. OU had to have a worse record than Bama for them not to get in as a P5 Conf Champ. Malzahn kept Bama out of the Sugar Bowl

Les Miles vs Ole Miss in 2009. 1 second left and he’s yelling at the QB to clock it.

The fake punt on 4 and 11 at midfield by Kirby Smart was pretty bad.

Didnt he motion for the qb to clock it on a 4th down in a game? Or am I thinking of the ole miss game?

Saban kicking a field goal on 4th and short only up 3 from the Arky 13 with about 70 seconds to play on 2002. Cost us the SECW.

I'm sensing a common occurrence.

Why doesnt Saban just hire an elite special teams coach and keep his hands off?

If we are going down that road, then this has to be in the conversation...

It doesn’t matter, he’d still unintentionally ruin the kickers.

he has.

Back to my earlier comment, maybe hiring Cochran wouldn't have been so awful. You can't overthink what you don't fully understand. And, how much worse could some of the STs crap get?

Well we made the field goal. But why give them the ball when a TD wins when you can just line it up and you need less than a yard to end the game? And even if you don’t get it they need over 85 yards to beat you? The field goal does you no good except removing OT from play.

Croom went for it on 4th and 3 from Georgia’s 43 and got it. Then punted on 4th and 1 from the 30 three plays later.

Kevin Steele Special

quote:

In Steele's first season (1999), Baylor finished with a 1–10 record (the school's worst since 1969). During the 1999 season, Steele's Baylor team was involved in what ESPN.com called one of the top 10 worst coaching decisions. The decision came when he chose a running play rather than a kneel down with Baylor leading and possessing the ball in the game's final 12 seconds and their opponent, the UNLV Rebels, was out of time outs. The ensuing Baylor fumble and UNLV return for a touchdown gave the Rebels a shocking win.

How many coaches have decided to kick the ball at the end of the game when they are facing 4th and less than a yard ? When a first down would eat the rest of the clock, but they punt it and the other team ends up scoring the winning points. I have seen it in College and especially in the Pros.

Nick Saban has made a bunch of terrible decisions to cost his team a win. Arkansas 2002, kick 6 are just a few. But he still is the GOAT.
Les Miles is probably the the worst for a winning coach. One decision that gets overlooked is going for a 60+ yard field goal into a strong wind vs Arkansas to force overtime.
*i could be wrong on the distance but I remember thinking how it was an impossible kick and seems like he was just throwing in the towel. At least try a trick play like a hook and ladder or anything.

ETA: Les attempted a 63 yard FG into the wind with Colt David. The ball barely made it past the goal line much less the uprights.
