SoCar doesn't own that stadium, right?
I'm not actually sure, but Wiki (FWIW) say it was deeded to us in 1941 and renamed Carolina Stadium. (Prior to that, it was Columbia Municipal Stadium and SC actually had a separate, on-campus stadium called Melton Field)

Unless you get a ton of rain, then the field will look like the Tampa Bay field a few years ago for LSU in whatever bowl game that was.

Out of curiosity, why were the plastic panels put on so far in advance? I'm assuming it was in order to bring in equipment and setup/sound checks? 5 days just seems like a long time in the music business, but I'm not familiar with setup in stadium venues relative to indoor facilities that are a little easier to get in/out quickly.
Also, they mention that no grow in sod has become popular, are there any examples of fields where it's been laid about a week prior to a game? Weight of sod would seemingly not be enough to make seams less dangerous?

Not only did it mess up the field it moves one of the last big scrimmages from the stadium to the practice field. With as poorly planned as USC's athletic areas are planned, this just complicates it more.

Dumb idea. Grass is not going to take root in that short of a time. It's going to be a shite show and most likely some players will get injured.
The Gamecocks play Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1 at Williams-Brice Stadium, which is why the school has placed an order for a type of turf that requires no “grow-in time.”
“The easiest way to explain it is the sheer weight of the sod holds it in place,” Cox said. “It’s a sod that is grown in a particular way that allows us to put the sod down and play on it immediately. It’s a process that has gained popularity over the last couple of years. From a playability standpoint, the field should be ready to go as soon as we put it down.”

It that isn't true. What do you expect him to say? My bosses boss made a huge mistake and now the field will suffer and the risk for injury is higher.

What’s more important? A concert or your playing surface?
At most SEC schools the playing surface... At USCe, the concert. Different priorities, different expectations.
