What's it like being a fan of a school w/ a run of the mill, nondescript mascot?

Wait, the Alabama Elephant? WTF? I prefer the more fanbase-accurate gumps.

Shut up husbandry.

I would be curious too- even my high school wasn't a generic mascot.

It's fine? What are you expecting, an existential crisis based on a mascot?

Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi "Islanders"

What else are you going to call a school located in a beautiful setting on North Padre Island, with palm trees swaying in the breeze and beautiful, powdery, white sand beaches about one minute away? Who could possibly go to classes and study in those surroundings?

Sweet Jeebus, how do you get this simple, basic, fact wrong? It's not on North Padre, as anyone in the state can tell you. Let alone the powdery white beaches.

Aggies used to be VERY prolific, as a lot of the land grant schools went with this originally. (At least west of the Mississippi)

How is Gump even remotely accurate?

Despite his mental handicaps, Forrest Gump (both the literary and cinematic version) accomplished more than anyone who posts on TD ever will.

63 - University of Tennessee "Volunteers"
"I don't know. They volunteered to get slaughtered by Mexican General Santa Anna's forces at The Alamo. Why you would want to proudly proclaim that Davy Crockett and his coonskin cap wearing friends all left Tennessee and rode off happily to certain death in Texas is beyond me. "

I hate it when uneducated buffoons try to write about things they don't know shite about. While Tennessee did send a large contingent to Texas, The University and the State get the nickname Volunteers from the War of 1812, where a large amount of Volunteers fought in The Battle of New Orleans .

Yep. We're playing the USU Aggies this year and then the SEC Aggies next.

But that site gets our mascot wrong as well. We became known as the Volunteers due to Andrew Jackson and the War of 1812. Ironically, Sam Houston and Davy Crockett both served under Jackson in this war. Then we solidified the nickname for both our state and university when we marched off to help Texas.

They can frick right off with this bullshite:

quote:

With only a handful of notable exceptions, schools featuring any of the above as nicknames/mascots have absolutely no imagination whatsoever. They are only masquerading as institutions of higher learning when they can't come up with anything more stimulating than that. Please deliver us from Bulldogs, Eagles, Indians, Devils and Wildcats of most any kind. Boooooor-ing!

We are THE Bulldogs, the most important and close enough to the original that I'm going to call it because we are the original public university (GFY, UNC). Who the hell are these assholes masquerading as intellectuals with their retard blanket statements?

Oh yeah, that live 750 pound Banana Slug living on the UC Santa Cruz campus in his own 30,000 sq ft habitat - pretty inspiring....
