Our low expectations this year is LSU’s ceiling.

I'm not crunching the numbers but I bet when you factor in buyouts and Aranda's contract we are probably paying what we were before. FFS we are paying Canada another $1.7 million over the next two years.

It's fricking retarded that we are paying Les NOT to be our coach while giving O a HC salary. I fricking hate Joe Alleva and Fking idiot.

Hey now, Auburn fans expect at least 8 wins following a good year. That's not terribly low.

It is crazy to think about it. You could've kept Les and had the same coaches lol

If Jimbo wins at A&M, LSU is fricked. If Jimbo doesn't win at A&M, A&M is fricked. It's all about whether or not Jimbo can produce.

They would owe a TON of money if they fire all the coaches in the next year or two.

8.5 M to buyout Ed
2.0 M to buyout Joe
7.5 M to buyout Dave

Ed's buyout was 8.5 million going into the season. Any buyout money would be offset by what he earns this season. So if he coaches the entire season, that buyout is more like 6 million. Joe Alleva's contract expires in July of 2020. He is paid $725k annually. So if he is fired at the end of the football season, he'd have about 1.5 years left on his contract, meaning his buyout would be in the realm of $1.1 million. Aranda's contract runs through the 2021 season. I don't know of the details of his buyout, but if it's fully guaranteed, his, at the end of this season, would be about 7.5 million (oddly enough, higher than Orgeron's).

So, in total, for those three guys, LSU would be looking at 14.6 million. Not saying it's cheap or anything, but 14.5 million is 20% less than 18 million. And these buyouts are always offset by what guys get paid at new jobs (Aranda would be unemployed for 5 minutes) and they're always spread out over a fair amount of years. LSU doesn't do lump sum buyouts like A&M. Buyouts are also almost always negotiated down. I think at the end of the day, assuming Aranda would get a great paying job almost immediately, LSU would likely be looking at maybe 8 million at the end of the day, which is very manageable.

I don't know why we always get so caught up on buyouts. SEC programs these days print money and have millions in their athletic funds. Orgeron doesn't have a long contract and isn't paid very much to begin with. His buyout would not be a roadblock at all. Aranda's would be more difficult, but like I said, Aranda isn't going to stay unemployed so LSU would never be on the hook for the entirety of his buyout. Not to mention what we are paying for Ed and our staff now isn't nearly as much as we were paying every year when Miles was the coach and had two coordinators making over 1.5 million a year.

You make some good points. Call it 12 M after the offsetting salary. Add in Canada & Les (~3M per year combined). Pay it off over 3 years. We're talking an additional 5 M a year over the next 3 and you still have to hire a new AD, new HC, and the HC's staff. You're not getting a quality HC under 5 or Coordinators under 1 so that's 7 there plus the 5 from earlier. Can LSU pay 12 M a year over the next few?

He doesn't really strike fear in anybody should he get the job. You never know with promoting from within with a guy with no previous experience. He may be the next Urban or Nick or he may be even worse than Ed.

I would take his HC inexperience over O's experience 7 days a week. I know leading the whole program is different from being the DC, but everyone who works around Aranda says he's just on another level. He's so detailed and so meticulous, and he leaves no stone unturned while game-planning. Not making a direct comparison, but that sounds like another pretty successful coach in the conference, huh?

If LSU loses to A&M this year, it'll be on the way from the field to the locker room.

LSU plays Miami in Arlington, @Auburn, @Florida, and Georgia before October is half over and then they get Alabama.

O's future will be decided well before they even leave for Kyle field.

He may not.

The new AD may want nothing to do with this current regime. Hope that's not the case because I think he could be excellent.

That’s 18 M before they spend a cent hiring someone else. At a minimum their HC is going to make 5 M. Their AD a little more and a new DC at least 1 M.

Do they have 25 M for 2019? I’m thinking no.

It was such a chickenshit cop out by Alleva. He got his feelings hurt when Herman wanted to talk with Texas, so he took his ball and went home. If he really believed Herman was the guy, he should've gone to bat for him. No program can offer the money Texas can, but LSU offers a lot more than warranted Alleva running away.

Programs that expect excellence put up when the chips are down. Hell, as much as I wish it hadn't happened, Bama's AD a decade ago knew exactly who he wanted, and he wouldn't accept no. That's someone who has stones. Alleva does not have stones.

It should not have been Herman or O. At the time, there was a huge range of guys between those two.
