What Would The Rant Think Of Charlie Strong at OM?

He failed at Texas, but we don't exactly have the pick of the litter. Great recruiter, plenty of HC experience, solid SEC connections, could assemble a good SEC staff. Maybe he's learned from his mistakes, maybe he's just a group of five coach.

He's been the hot name for the past 72 hours, just curious as to what the rant would think of the hire, especially compared to his competition in Frank Wilson, Jeremy Pruitt, Chad Morris, Mike Norvell, and Mike Machintyre.

If he can't win at Texas he isn't going to win at Ole Miss. Pruitt, Morris, and MacIntyre are not going to come to Ole Miss

I think Texas should have given him 1 more year. Wouldn't be a bad choice for OM.

He's fine, but he wouldn't strike much fear in me as an LSU fan.

What coach would even consider OM without knowing exactly what the NCAA has to say?

Any name or scenario is 100% speculation

I think the main issue with him at Texas is he never really had the support that he needed from the boosters. That was one issue Orgeron had at Ole Miss.

Probably the best Ole Miss could do.

I don't think Norvell or Morris would take the job and I think he is better than the rest of your list.

No one worth taking. The penalties will be handed down at the end of the week is why the coaching speculation is heating up.

As an LSU fan, I'd be excited if Ole Miss made this hire.

Strong would be a pretty good get for OM in their situation. But he might get other opportunities. If Petrino leaves L'ville, Strong might go back there. He may be on Tenner's and/or Arky's list too

Really? Didn't realize it had been so long?

Man, I'm almost nostalgic and a little sad. This whole odyssey could be coming to an end

Good hire IMO

People will say (as I've seen in this thread) the stupid "he couldn't win at Texas why could he win at Ole Miss?"

It's bullshite. Different programs. Different expectations.

It's still early, but we heard the same thing with Muschamp and he's done alright so far.

Are you predicting they don’t announce this year at all? Why would the potential coach not know?

This has been an argument a lot of us have made, though Muschamp actually won at Florida, whereas Strong never did.

I always liked the idea of Frank Wilson, but realized Strong is just as capable a recruiter with more HC experience so I thought I was being hypocritical canceling him out because of what happened at Texas.

OM has to have a great recruiter because while the '18 and '19 teams will have talent enough to win 7-8 games, the '20 and on teams will be awful if they do not have elite freshman and sophomores on it.
