What would have been the less controversial choice?

Ohio State or Alabama. Which would have caused less of a nationwide panic seemingly, because the sports media today is on fire.

OSU by far. Theyre melting because of two SEC teams.

Could have easily picked tOSU and simply said, "We wanted the B1G Champ represented."
Now ... a few hundred under-outraged and reasonable Gumps would have died at the hand of REC-Controlled Uber-Gumps in this scenario ... but no one would have noticed or really cared.

No matter who got picked it would have been a circus. Just like when they eventually go to 8 teams folks will be bitching about teams 7-10.

Less controversial Ohio State. I think the college football world has Alabama fatigue. People are tired of hearing about Alabama.

We should just do away with the conference championship games. Apparently it doesn’t mean anything anymore.

You sure seem to take this seriously these last couple of days. Might want to take a step back off the ledge, it will be OK.

That thread is down the hall and to the right. Can't miss it.

Probably neither. These are two of the most polarizing programs in the sport. People are losing their shite over Alabama getting in, and it would've been a similar reaction if Ohio State had gotten in.

It meant something to Georgia. Also Ohio State. Had Ohio State not played in their championship game they would not even be in the conversation of the playoffs.

Or ... perhaps you could learn to take a joke.
It's not like there isn't Gump History to back this up.
Very violent people.

Practically any other non SEC team. And that may not be fair, but let’s not pretend the SEC bias isn’t real. We all acknowledge it but we call it an advantage. We even take pride its existence. That’s not to say it hasn’t been earned and somewhat justified. It’s also pointless in this discussion IMO bc Bama getting in had more to do with them being Bama than their SEC affiliation. And just so it’s clear I’m not unhappy at all with the decision.

The safe route was to choose OSU. You could always hide behind the conference championship argument. They actually stuck to their guns and chose the fourth best team rather than the 1st best alternative P5 conference champ.
