The campus is gorgeous but other than that I was bored as hell being there.
This puzzles me. Theres literally 30 bars and restaurants on the square, its a top 3 college party town, top two gorgeous women, tunica and Memphis are an hour away.Ive been at school there for four years and am planning stuff to do this weekend that I've never done. How the frick could you get bored?
On a funny note, I find it hilarious that LSU fans are judging the town of Oxford by their craw fish.

i love this. no one can just not like oxford. there has to be something wrong with them not the city
I think he's assuming you re being biased or never been to Oxford if you say you dont like it and do not give a reason for it. And one that doesnt include we couldnt get a reservation anywhere or their craw fish isnt good

I'd say that this thread proves how great Oxford is if that's all they can come up with.

The entire town empties out every weekend when there isn't a football game. Oxford is a cool little place for a while, but it gets boring pretty quickly man.
And yes, I've been up there 12-15 different weekends in the past year. I do like one of your women in particular

Also, I'll never understand why the cops have to be such assholes about drinking (I guess that complaint could go to several schools). Is it true that you can't drink outdoors at Double Decker? I'm told you have to be inside at a bar, or outside listening to music w/o drinks....and can't even bring an icec hest. That's lame.

I went there 3 years ago with my wife so she could interview with the pharmacy school.

I saw a sack of live crawfish in Starkville Saturday morning. Cooking a crawfish is not rocket science. If you wanted to make the trip to get them, keep them alive and cook them in Oxford, I think I could do it and do it well. If I didn't want to go to the trouble then I would leave them off of the offering (menu).

Fall, yeah, but Spring/Winter, hell no. It isn't nearly as large as most SEC towns, and plus we do a good bit of traveling when our football team is on the road.

The cops are just awful in this town. And I'm not sure, nor particularly care, if you can't bring drinks outside during Double Decker, since I've done it anyway the past 2 years. People bring drinks out on the square regardless.

You and your wife must suck if you were that bored. Do you not like going out to eat or going to bars? I can find stuff to keep me entertained in even the worst towns. And bored in Ft. Walton? No golfing, fishing, eating, or drinking? You sound pretty high maintenance

This. Who the hell gets bored in Ft. Walton/Destin? Who doesn't like the beach?
As far as oxford, we couldnt really go out because she had an interview in the morning and we didnt think itd be very good to be up late for one of the most important interviews of her life. We went out to eat at a restaurant, and my wife got something that had fries with it but they were cold. We then asked the waitress if we could get some hot fries and she took my wifes fries and a short time later came back with the same plate of fries. We asked her about it and she told us that the manager put the fries back in the frier to heat them up! My wife worked in a restaurant and we knew how unsanitary that is so we then asked for the check. That was our experience in Oxford.
As far as Fort Walton goes, while growing up my family went to PCB every year so compared to Fort Walton, I was used to having tons of things to be able to do. I remember asking a lady at a restaurant when it would start to get busy around town with alot of people and she replied that they were packed with people. I asked that because the city seemed like a ghost town compared to what I was used to in Panama City Beach. We went to 3 different strip clubs and were very disappointed at all 3. Maybe fourth of july weekend just isnt a good time to go to Fort Walton? I went to Fort Walton when I was 22 and Im 30 now so maybe Id like it alot more since I like to just relax on the beach these days compared to back when I was younger?

I mean Oxford is boring and all, but you can't really be basing your entire opinion on one cold plate of fries at a restaurant, can you?
Posted on 4/19/10 at 9:28 pm to NaturalBeam
Kind of what I was thinking. When I was doing school interviews I would always find a BWW and have wings and beer the night before. Worked out fine for me.
And FWIW, Ft. Walton is 3897495744985 times better than PCB. Not even close. PCB is far and away the most white trash laden place I have ever been.

Actually she was accepted. You dont get turned down for pharm school when you score a 90 on your PCAT

There isnt any type of "animosity" towards Oxford. My dislike for the town is due to a boring experience while there. Maybe if we wouldve had more time to be there we wouldve like it better.
I can say this though. If I was retired, had a boatload of money, and wanted alot of land Id consider moving there because we did see many beautiful pieces of farmland along the way to campus. It just wasnt the place for me at the time.

I had one bad weekend there and have never been back. Thats the only experience I can offer because it was the only time Ive been there. Who knows, maybe I didnt see 95% of the city and only saw the 5% that "in my opinion" was boring. Im sure there are places I think are great and others think are horrible. Thats the beauty of being able to live anywhere you want.

Double Decker is a ton of fun. They shut down the roads on the Square Saturday and play some great fricking music. All the awesome bars and restaurants participate. Robert Randolph played last year and a fricking party broke out in the streets, but you probably think he is "gay" too. You sound like a tool.
I agree with Caterpillar here. You drink on the square all day, and its always draft weekend. So if you dont like drinking all day and you have a serious case of the ghey. Then just stay home.

Is it really going to be this crowded? If so F that. I'm too old these days to deal with this many people in such a small space.
Tell me where I can go and enjoy this thing and not be squished up against people constantly.

It is crowded, but how does that look "boring" to the other nega-oxford posters? Again, it was all based on a cold plate of fries
