Nothing. Just like NIL, the NCAA didn't think this through at all.

The NCAA is not responsible for the NIL. Politics and governments are.

The NCAA is just forced to figure out how to deal with it.

All of this is going to end up destroying the very thing that made college football so special. The fact that it wasn’t the NFL. More corporatization doesn’t equal a better product. It is going to be NFL lite now. Those of us over mid forties may just have to leave this coming shitshow to the youngsters because I’m sure your generation will think it’s great. Us old white guys know better.

As soon as a player puts in his name, by rule, the university doesn't have to renew his scholarship. It's that simple.

If you're good enough to be wanted, you can go free agent. If you're not - you can't.

No different than sending out a resume'.

Just look at Quinn Ewers. He made $$ and was only at Ohio State for 4 months. Now he going to Texas, his real choice and gonna make more money. I see more players doing this

What - exactly - made it so special to you ? The notion that a player, once they walked through those doors, couldn't leave for at least four years ?

I signed a contract with the US Army for six. I really, really couldn't break that one. Didn't seem all that "special", at any time I did not, get this, renew the contract.

Tell us more - how ironclad should these "contracts" between ball players and schools be ? So that you may maximize the enjoyment of your viewing experience ?

Coaches are empowered to do so now. The day any ball player puts his name in the portal - the hosting school may choose to not renew the scholarship, no questions asked.

I wonder - how many people here understand - the hosting school has many, many opportunities by which to cancel a scholarship. It's only a year by year commitment - on the part of the school.

You can do it. But you better be right. Kind of like free speech. You can't go to jail. But the public can frick your business up. Ask the Dixie Chicks.

Yea but sports generally have a governing body with rules in place to try to ensure a level playing field and keep the sport emtertaining.. What we have now is free agency in the NFL with basically no rules and no salary cap.
