This is news to you? South Carolina has led that statistic for decades.
The only thing new at the top of that list is that New Mexico has finally been knocked out of second place.

A lot of folks in Texas live in an actual house and work in one of the big cities full time, but keep a trailer on the family ranch for when they're out there working or hunting. Probably inflates Texas' numbers too.

Of course you would because the state of Mississippi get so much stereotype media coverage. If Hollywood makes a movie about the south you can bet Mississippi is going to get hammered. Same with a bad storm. The media goes out of their way to find white trash and stick a microphone in their face. They do it to Alabama a lot also.
I have been all over this country and every place has a lot of trash areas.

The data comes from a census survey, so no, none of those structures are included unless the residents were included in a census count for that physical address, rather than their primary homes.

Actually in coastal counties in Florida the number of parks for manufactured houses (impressive way of saying trailers) is declining because the value of land is worth so much.
Here in Pinellas County (Clearwater, St Petersburg) there are at least 10 parks that have been sold for development in the last ten years. Only the resident owned parks are safe unless they vote to sell and cash out. I expect a lot more parks will sell out soon...the real estate market in Florida has finally starting going upward the past couple of years.
Retirees are a lot more active than they used to be. But tourists? The main beach road is clogged at times and its also because of younger yankees and spring breakers. I have to be careful driving along the beach with all the scenery in March/April

quote:Obviously that is because there is shite to do in Florida and people actually want to live there. Who the frick wants to move to alabama? I don't even live in Florida or Alabama.
Obviously not as high as those cities in Florida.
Obviously if you crunch the numbers, Florida is a bigger state than Alabama, so by the sheer numbers, yes Florida wins but shouldn't they as their state is much more populated than Alabama (meaning more people want to live there than Alabama).
Yes Florida has trashy stuff that goes on, but maybe if Alabama, the Carolina's, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Arkansas and Missouri had a larger population and had people actually want to flock there for retirement or for vacations, then maybe you will hear more trashy things from those states. Maybe Tenn and Louisiana has legit reasons to come to their state.
quote:So you are saying that the bigger and more populated a state, the larger their numbers are? Amazing discovery you got there. Does that make you feel better about the 15% of trailers parks found in your state?
Florida, followed by Texas, North Carolina, California, and Georgia. There’s probably close to 900 thousand mobile homes in Florida alone
Also a trailer is very different from living in trailer park. The original premise of this thread is about trailer parks, not trailers. So how many of those mobile homes you listed are actually found within a trailer park?

So the odds are good that between CNB, Vols&shaft, scrooster, carolinagirl, and thegarnettway, at least one of you all lives in a trailer.
Mmhmm. Nurses with my education and experience are absolutely destitute.
Maybe I'll start a gofundme account so I can finally escape this damn pop up camper I'm living in.
I was told this trailer/camper park was the Beverly Hills of all parks when I settled here. I believed it, too, until the park TOA/COA (trailer/camper owners association) up and decided we couldn't have our pink flamingos in our 'yard' sites anymore.
ETA: I just thought of a way to improve my lot in life, y'all!!! I'm gonna move into my parents' basement!!!

Yeah Florida has a lot. Most are retirement communities.
In fact, my first 10 years out of college, my Wife and I lived in a Mobile Home. I was an asst golf pro in the Chicago Area and no way could we afford a house or appt. Our first was an 8X44 with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. But as soon as I got my first Head Professional Job, in Kankakee, we upgraded to a mammoth 12X60. At the same time we had purchased a patio home in Florida for our Winter getaways.
I guess I was and maybe still am, trailer park trash.

Here in Louisiana we have a ton. But if this is purely about trashing the poor, you need to also throw in Section 8 housing and all the old shotgun houses in every city in the South. I have a feeling that evens up the score across the SEC.

You would think it's Alabama.... Alabama is quite high up there. But no, it's ........
South Carolina!
You all have 18.8% of your residents living in mobile homes... Explains a lot, actually.

Congrats, South Carolina!
