This is amateur athletics baw. No one is cheating. They play for the love of the game. Boosters just want to give of their time and some cash to help teams have pizza parties for morale. That's it. Nothing to see here.

I work with a former bagman. Great guy, would never know he did that line of “work”. The guy worked closely with few governors before going private, he’s connected as hell and knows everyone.

Does not say much about it, just that it is a very much a “clique” and that it was mostly handshakes and mostly self funded at the time. I try and slightly pry but never push it. Says it is “beneath” the HC to know about it, but they “know” about it if that makes sense. I asked if he got hooked up with tickets or events and he said the people in the group never needed special favors/tickets because it was easily obtainable for them without help.

Bagmen are real, and I guarantee every school makes “strong arse offers” in some respects.

TL:DR Colleague is a former bagman and says it is still an ongoing tradition.

One team used a hospital to funnel money to players.

LSU fans always comment about Bama and a lot of it is in jest but some of us remember Rickey Francois, Dwayne Bowe, Ali Highsmith and Barrington Edwards. Saban was in charge and all were bought and paid for. Hes only gotten better with experience and better backing at Bama.

So you're blaming Alabama for something their coach did 15 years ago while he wasn't even associated with Alabama, huh?

Lol..I’m not going to leave out names. Jackie Sherrill and the Aggies made a great offer to Eric Dickerson. We bought the son of a bitch a Trans Am. SMU made him a much better financial deal. He took our Trans Am and the big money from SMU. As Lyndon Johnson said, when he bought someone, he expected them to stay bought. Then Texas Gov. (SMU regent) Bill Clements was quoted saying they would “phase out” the payments to the players because it wouldn’t be fair to cut them off all at once. But that was pretty common back in the day. Brian Bosworth drove a brand new Corvette while at Oklahoma, given to him by a booster. Bosworth admitted to it in print.

Gee,how brave.A 40 year old story that was featured on 30 for 30 amongst many other publications and all the schools involved got caught. Not exactly ground breaking.

Still waiting for all those cheating stories from all the hot shot insiders on here who continually claim cheating is "rampant" and "obvious" and "EVERYBODY does it!"

These threads always end up with almost zero revelations about "cheating"

Are you arguing in the same post that cheating isn’t that common AND that you personally knew of two instances?

I knew of one that was 2nd hand and another that was a case of 2 guys that had cushy summer jobs but this is over THIRTY FIVE years ago.

AND ONCE AGAIN,I NEVER SAID CHEATING DOESN'T HAPPEN!God almighty.

My entire point, which you obviously can't comprehend is that folks on this site continually talk about how CHEATING is "rampant" and "obvious" and it "happens everywhere" and when pressed for details it's the same shite every time... virtually nothing.I mean,so many on here claim to be "connected" or "insiders"...I would expect to hear LOADS of cheating stories.
