The question is whether he discussed it with anyone at Texas A&M.
So if he did discuss it with someone at A&M, y’all have no beef. But if he didn’t discuss it with anyone at A&M, but did discuss it with other schools.. then you have a beef.
Is he required to discuss it with all schools? If not, surely you would understand (not agree with it, but understand) why he might not.

For all that money, they suck basically as an athletic department. Texas is not even a baseball school anymore.
Agreed. We do suck. Y’all should go get Baylor instead.

We didn’t approach you. Y’all showed up at our doorstep.
That said, don’t tempt us.

Y’all have been in the conference for like 15 minutes, nobody cares

Bingo.

Yes.
But as I said earlier in this thread, I’d be stunned if anything like that occurred.
It makes no sense.
Yet the items on Monday’s agenda and the comments released by Dr. Loftin are just plain odd.

Whether anyone cares isn’t the issue.
A potential breach of contract is.
You’re better than this.

lmao Is that supposed to scare me?
I dare you motherfricker! I dare you to add Baylor. Show me your almighty power and stupidity.

Yes.
There’s nothing in the SEC by laws requiring that the commissioner speak with all schools.

I didn’t say we would add Baylor. We could add just about anyone we wanted and it wouldn’t shock me at all if you retards in Austin frick this up.

A breach of contract saying that he is required to notify each school if any school reaches out about joining the conference?
Ok let’s say that there is a breach of contract.
What are the damages?

Y’all are really reaching with this. The SEC did not enter into an exclusive agreement with Texas A&M that differed greatly from the contracts of every other member
Come on. Let’s not rewrite history and pretend A&M had the upper hand in the negotiations with the SEC.

If this deal gets messed up for any reason whatsoever, the blame will not be in Austin. The blame will be directly on one of the teams currently in your league, that purposely leaked this deal in order to try and squash it before it was finalized.
So if the deal doesn’t happen, you know exactly who to blame. Texas is 100% all in. This isn’t leverage.. this isn’t some game to frick with Aggy.. we are in. We shall see what happens.

That’s my understanding as well.
Some comments made by Dr. Loftin, who was our President during the 2011/2012 expansion:
quote:
- We flew to New Orleans in 2011 when this was coming to a head as Texas A&M joining the SEC progressed. I had regents with me. We met with then-commissioner Mike Slive, the architect of the SEC Network came with us along with other SEC officials. Mike was asked very specifically whether Texas would ever be considered to be a member of the SEC, and the answer was that it would be up to us. Texas A&M would have the ability to say yes or no. That was then, this is now. Mike Slive is no longer the commissioner, and he has also passed away. Almost all of the leadership from the schools are gone from their roles.
- Going back more than 10 years, I became aware of a six-month or longer effort between Larry Scott, the Pac-10 and DeLoss Dodds about Texas and other schools going with them to the west coast. That was done without other schools being talked about. Larry Scott showed me a complete schedule for all sports for a 16-team conference. It had been going on for months and months without us knowing it.
- I feel betrayed here because we thought we would be treated equally. We thought we would all be at the table. If this has happened without that, this represents a fundamental shift in the culture of the Southeastern Conference.
If the proverbial gentlemen’s agreement is all that occurred, there’s nothing to discuss. That’s not legally binding, and our Regents know that. Which is why Monday’s meeting is curious
This whole deal is lousy. I hope after Monday it’s all been laid to rest, and our sole focus is Aggie sports.

I’m not reaching with anything.
This isn’t my scenario.
I’m simply explaining the events/responding to questions.

No.
It’d obviously have to be more than that.

No clue.
That’s be a question for the attorneys.
But we’re light years from that, and I don’t happen to think it happened.
Just my opinion.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to A&M. Their only argument is “unwritten gentleman rules” they claim were used by UF to block FSU. That’s of course a lie, as Bobby Bowden famously said he didn’t want to play an SEC schedule and that’s why they didn’t join.
Aggies love to make shite up, don’t they?

I agree, it is curious, but not all that surprising really. I really think this is more about A&M realizing their standing within the SEC and being embarrassed. Dr. Loftin’s comments reflect that.
