Auburn has had a top 20 ranked roster every year since Malzhan was there. That was not good enough to even make a bowl game so they certainly weren’t ranked in the top 20. Outside of Cam Newton, Auburn has traditional done less with more, and their periods of success coincide with down periods at Alabama and/or Georgia.

When you stack multiple top 10 classes back to back to back you typically win a lot of games.

Freeze is well on his way to doing that. The days of Auburn having a roster that is vastly inferior to the upper tier of the SEC are coming to a close.

It should be concerning for a barner. I've watched, at times, in disbelief, for two seasons as the barn continued to lose against much less talented teams. It wasn't about quarterbacks, running backs, or wide receivers. They didn't execute, or they were simply out-hustled. That is why Hugh Freeze couldn't get them to .500 in year 2. They didn't play disciplined and they didn't play hard.

Frankly, that is not the same coach I watched at Ole Miss and year 3, as some barners have been stating, is the final year of this train wreck if he doesn't turn it around BIGGLY. When Harsin beats your 2-year record and he refused to recruit, something is terribly wrong. Freeze can recruit at a higher level and that is the only reason he isn't paying for the same sins.

Sounds like the same game plan your head coach has committed to.

That’s a winning trend. The talent is starting to stack up.

This group was on campus last year and went 5-7?

Yikes.

Wow, you’re telling me one top 10 recruiting class full of freshmen was on campus and we didn’t have a great year?

Enlightening.

I’ll take another run at the FF next year over a winning football team.

What about “Alabama fan” would lead you to believe he knows anything more than how to upsell French fries?

Gus Malzahn was a very good recruiter. His most successful 5 year recruiting run was 2014-2018. His classes were ranked 6th, 6th, 5th, 13th, 9th. Over that five year period Auburn’s recruiting ranking averaged 7.8. They had a lot of talant, top 10 talent.

Between 2015-2019 Gus Malzhan, with all this talent, went:

2015: 7-6
2016: 8-5
2017: 10-4
2018: 8-5
2019: 9-4

During that five year span, the most successful in recent Auburn history, Auburn tied for one western division title. They had no season with less than 4 losses. They were 2-3 against Alabama and 1-4 against Georgia. They won the Music City and Birmingham Bowls while losing the Outback, Peach, and Sugar.

That is what top 10 recruiting classes do at Auburn. And Gus was a better actual coach than Freeze.

Doing less with more. An Auburn tradition like. Like throwing toilet paper in trees.
