I think Harsin is a solid football coach who, if given time, will have a much more consistent program than his predecessor. However, I do not think he is going to recruit well enough to have surprise seasons where they are a top 5/10 team like Gus did. And Auburn won't accept consistently going 7-5/8-4 with fringe top 25 recruiting classes.
I also think Harsin is a really good coach who jumped to a program that was unwilling to even give him a year before boosters conducted an all-out assault on him as a coach and a person.

As a human being, the guy is clearly a winner. Overachiever. Disciplined. Hard-working. Organized. I’m with Charles Barkley when he said that if the fat cat meddlers would just leave the dude alone and support him he could build a hell of a program I believe. But our boosters won’t, because our boosters gonna JABA. I for one hope the guy has a successful season and tells the meddlers to get fricked like Saban did.

You realize Auburn won the NC with Saban in Tuscaloosa and played for another 3 years later, right?
Once again. Apples and oranges. The balance of Auburn's 2010 national championship team were recruited to the Plains in February 2007, just after Saban got there. Incidentally that was Tuberville's best recruiting class while at Auburn. Unless Auburn starts forking over the money in NIL they most likely won't recruit at that level ever again.

I don't think it's that simple (at least at this point). Setting aside the debacle from earlier this year, which can't be undone...
To allow Harsin to thrive we'll probably have to endure a drought, which I suspect will start next year. It could start this year, but I think we'll slightly overachieve. I don't think we'll be in the CFB desert, but it'll be a 2-4 year run of very mediocre results at a time when a lot of the conference may be trending up.
And I think that puts AU in the difficult position of trying to discern whether a) Auburn can afford 2-4 years of irrelevance and b) whether Harsin and the program can rebuild recruiting while dealing with mediocre results on the field. If the answer is yes, I think it's because you assume it's a shorter drought and you assume Harsin can overachieve and turn likely 6 win seasons into 8ish wins, thereby providing a foundation to build up recruiting and get back on truly competitive footing.
I think Auburn fans appropriately understand that unlike LSU or UGA or Bama we're at higher risk of a Tennessee/Nebraska type existential threat. So the prospect of 3-4 years in the wilderness can't be taken lightly.

Well said. I think it's inevitable the 2023, 2024 Auburn rosters are pretty bad (compared to their competition). If you believe Harsin can build a culture, compete at a certain level and in the process develop the recruiting to a higher level (solid, top 15ish), then that's a pretty decent proposition. Because the program will be on solid ground with a solid plan and system in place by 2025 or 2026 in a way that produces consistently solid rosters and teams.
But like you said, if you go out on that ledge and it turns out he can't recruit.......all of sudden you look up and Auburn has been nationally irrelevant for 5 years and has a roster closer to Vanderbilt than Alabama or Georgia for a prospective coach to inherit.
It's a tricky situation.

Oh here we go again
Ok, what about 2013? Did Tuberville recruit all them too?
And if I remember correctly, Tuberville had nothing to do with recruiting the GOAT that made that team.

Who is Bryan Hardin?
Why don't you tell us because I've never heard of that person. I know Bryan Harsin is 1-0 vs. Ole Miss in his tenure at Auburn.

Bryan Harsin doesn't have a scandal-riddled program coached by Mike Shula on the other side of the state like Tommy Tuberville did. Tubby got his fair share of top recruits.
Ahhh…revisionist history. Tubs was a lazy recruiter. His classes averaged exactly the same as Harsin’s class last year. And they were actually worse with the non qualifiers Tubs signed every year.

Tubs was definitely a lazy recruiter, but he had some good recruiters in Georgia and he cleaned up Alabama while we were in shambles.

Auburn always sneaky good ... see @ LSU last year where they hadn't won in 20 years.
